When you say Free entry, is that Free entry to Park and pay nomination fees?? Or it's all Free?? Because if that's the case... WOW
Re: King Of the Park Challenge
Hi guys, no you wont need rego, not sure on lengths of course yet, all stages will be different, some fast and easy, others either difficult or short, but tracks cover approx 15,000 acre property with over 250km's of tracks with allsorts of grades and terrain. You wont always be using the tracks either.
More info as we get it guys

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
i'm definately interested, but i'd like to see a better outline of the format. If it's just a bunch of short courses like TT or MMM's winch challenges then i might not be up for it. I'm definately more after long course events where winching isn't absolutely required.

I have managed to get my roster rearranged to suit the dates mentioned earlier. Please don't move the dates, it'll be a total ball ache to get the roster moved again.........

Hi guys,
more info, if you intend running a tuff truck, tuff truck rules apply to vehicle for scrutineering, same with winch truck winch truck rules apply, offroad buggy's offroad buggy rules apply,
Entry forms are now available from me at andrew_manarpark@hotmail.com and entry is free to anyone who registers before july 1st, heaps of interest from all over so looks like it will be a top event, it looks like about 30 gps points each day, about 6 hrs of running at least. several TV shows have shown interest and a heap of sponsors so could be some potentially good prizes up for grabs.
More info as it unfolds.

I would say so seem as you have to get from A-B via way points, could be wrong. Bigger the GPS the better if this is the case.

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
Can we please have a few questions answered about the event Andy?
# When you say competitors will travel from GPS point to point, will these points be like a biscuit trail so that competitors are forced to drive through the gorges and rock sections? or will the simply be able to to bypass the tricky stuff and take easy lines?
# Would it be better to have the GPS points lead competitors to bunted off areas where they will then have to stay within that area and be forced to drive the trickyer lines and more exciting obstacles?
# Will all cars bo on the same course at the same time? Maybe just leaving at 2 min intervals or something like that?
And if the GPS points just end up being from point to point where the harder stuff can be dodged then this will simply be a GPS comp for Buggies and winch cars which is not what the guys entering would be entering for, they will be there to battle it out on the hard stuff and see who really deserves to be the King of the Park!

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
I don't think you should pass on the event just because you will have to follow gps points.... It is the easiest way to herd all of the competitors in the right direction if a reasonable distance is to be travelled!
The beauty of KOTR is that the park is quite compact and there isn't any real wide open areas where you buggy guys can confuse yourselves and start to get a little worried because there isn't bunting or witches hats within sight.....
With Manar it will be a little more open with larger gaps between the main obstacles and more openg ground so unless the organisers do a few ram raids on a few council depots to stock up on a whole heap of witches hats they need to use gps way points to have everyone going the right way!
Since by the sounds of it the points will be given to competitors before racing starts even a hand held gps will be sufficient because everyone can plot the points atcamp and then on race day all you need is that little arrow pointing you in the right direction!

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
I don't mind if there's a little bit of navigating to be done, even the KOH boys have to do some nav work in that event. Although i'd hate to be the poor bugger in a single seater trying to drive AND use GPS, they'll be busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking competition.
As long as that's not the focus of the event i'm cool with it. I"m absolutely shite at using a GPS so i'll be handing over full responsibility to the navi, that way if we lose it's all his fault

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
Hi Guys,
There seems to be some concerns with gps points etc, at this stage you will get given approx 30 Gps points approx 20 - 30 mins before the start of the days racing, you will have to approach gps points from a certain direction. it will not be easy for any type of vehicle as the country it is being held in changes dramatically, Sometimes the terrain between the 2 gps ponts will suit your style of vehicle but then the next 2 gps points may be harder for your type of vehicle so over the 30 points the field will be even for each class of vehicle, there is not necessarily a designated route and for instance a tuff truck may decide to go straight up, whilst the buggy takes a flatter faster route, the idea is it will take them about the same time to get between the points which is where brains comes into it, it will be up to you to decide which route will be better for you! Yes you will need a gps but you will have the 30 mins approx to put the points in before the race. This has been designed to be a challenging event so please do not think it will just be a sunday drive!
p.s As I work 10 on 4 off please realise I am not able to get on here everyday, so please accept my apology if it takes me awhile to answer questions sometimes.
Thanks
Andy

I personally cant justify the expense of a quality GPS for one event.
not until this style (KOH) is bigger will it be justified??.
its a hard one ...

Surely you'd have a mate or know someone who does winch comps or something like that, most gps units winch challenge guys use simply plug into a cigerette lighter plug, so could have one wired in place, line up a gps to be at the comp then throw it in and off you go, if not a hand held gps is that expensive, heck if there's phone reception you could do it with an I-phone..... i know of guys finiding 15 gps point on foot using an i-phone when there car broke down at a comp.
You dont need a huge ass GPS to do something that will only require the basics to plot and follow the points...

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
Hi Everyone,
Still waiting on a few stragglers and we will announce the field, looks like about 15+ cars at this stage for sure but heaps of interest and entry forms still going out! I can tell you that there are some big names amongst them and some fantastic vehicles being built and already commited to the challenge.
The majority at this stage are winch trucks with a few tough trucks and the odd buggy in as well.
With entrants from all over queensland and a few nsw boys as well.
The course has been set and will be an awesome one for everyone to watch with great specatator points where you will be able to see the whole field at once all competing at the same time. This will not be an easy event and it will definately sort out the entrants.
We still need more sponsors and officials to make the event a huge success, the more sponsors the better the prize money for the entrants. this can be anything from a few products right up to major sponsorship. There are great opportunities for all businesses including trade stands and ongoing sponsorship around the park throughout the year that follows.
We have extended the free entry to August 1st due to the large amount of interest still being shown.
Entry forms can still be obtained from andrew_manarpark@hotmail.com
Spectator prices are as follows
1 Day pass
Adults $10 Child $5
Family Pass (2 adults 3 children) $30
2 Day pass
Adults $15 Child $7.50
Family Pass $45
Camping unpowered Adults $5 per night, Child $2.50
Riding and 4wding will be at normal park rates, please note a large percentage of the 4wd tracks will be closed for the event except when travelling to the specatator areas, however the rest of the park will be open as per normal.
Camping at Main Camp will be for entrants and sponsors only as this will become a main staging area for the event.
Camping at the other camp grounds will be as per normal.
Will you be King Of The Park!

Well its coming up soon now, at this stage field is looking at 20+ entrants with some really amazing vehicles entered so far!
Sponsors are starting to come on board but we still need more, remember guys the more we have the better the prizes!
Course area is looking fantastic and spectators will get an amazing view and will definately not be bored with everyone running at the same time!
Remember this is not just a winch challenge tough truck or gps event but all rolled into one with the focus on spectator satisfaction, it has been designed to be tough and only the best team will get crowned King Of The Park at the end of the day!
There will be plenty of camping for specatators and all camp grounds have amenities with hot showers and flushing toilets!
See you there
andy
