Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
A mate of mind recons u can run a rear hilux centre in the front. Is it true and how do thy go with the rear LSD set up in front.
Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
In the solid axle. Leaf all round yea the centers for the front and the rear. Dunno bout running the LSD in the front. Contemplating doing it to my fathers
93 duel cab lux. 2.8 TD twin locked. Big tyres, little lift. Wide stance. Barwork and build up under way
Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Yes the solid axle models interchange front to rear... LSD up front does help a little bit, but its nothing like having a locker.
Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Ah very good. I should have specified that I was talking about solid axle lux's. Thanks guys
Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
As previously said yes the centres are interchangeable! I took the lockright locked centre out of the rear and put it straight in the front. One of the best mods I have done!
To save money you can weld the diff centre before it goes in, only if you have manual locking hubs though. For normal driving with the hubs free you will never know there is a locked diff in the front. Good luck with the swap.

Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Thanks bud. I'm not goin to weld it. My brother is just changing over diff gears and I'm using the standard diff centre until I can get my hands on some air lockers.
Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Bit of a dig..
Is the info in this thread accurate?
I'm having some front diff issues atm, and on the off chance that the center is farked, I have a rebuilt lsd rear sitting here doing nothing. I can bolt this straight into the front?
1996 LN106 solid axle 4.3s
Cheers guys

Haha thanks mate
Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Yes you can interchange them, just the diff centre is run on the opposite side of the teeth on crownwheel/ pinion. But it's no problems interchanging them.
A LSD will be fine in the front either old n worn or tight and rebuilt.

3.0L turbo diesel, 4" lift, bud's front housing, track assasin cv's, air lokker front + Rear, beadlock'd 37 stickies, high steer, 15.5" travel ranchos, high pinion diff and coils on the rear
Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Can you elaborate a bit for me? I cant picture what you mean.
Cheers

Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Eg- think of the one diff centre in the rear rotating in one direction, now if u swap it to the front it has to rotate in the opposite direction for the car to move. Remembering the two drive flanges face one another.
Thus it is possible to have noisy gears in the rear and by swapping the centres around noise can go away (getting driven on other side of gears)
This is a bit off track of topic.
Understand?

Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Yeah pretty certain i'm following. If i've got a rear center in the front, when going in reverse, the diff will be running on the original side of the teeth
Re: Are f&r hilux centers interchangable
Correct!!
It means little overall, only if the centres had never been swapped the drive side of gears after swap will be like new.
But you can interchange them, and the lsd's are ok in the front when shimmed, in the rear they do wear out after a while but take ages to wear out in front due to turning circle and amount driven on.
