The vacuum section of the transfer only controls the shift from 2wd to 4wd and back. Hi and Low is shifted via the stick. If you are stuck in hi 4wd and cant get it out of 4wd check all your vacuum connections etc and make sure the solenoids etc are working. The vac lines might have been damaged, come off or you might not have enough engine vacuum to work the system?

If the electric over vacuum solenoid that takes it out of 4wd is malfunctioning, you can actually swap the vac lines over so the one that normally puts it in can take it out... this is a temporary type fix but if it's only one solenoid it does work...... if that makes sense... then of course you won't be able to get it back in 4wd unless you swap vac lines again..... if it's the main diaphram down at the transfer, your out of luck without a pull apart and replace

If there is binding in the driveline, it wont disengage. Try jacking up one of the front wheels

You should never engage or disengage the 4wd on a hard road (concrete, bitumen). Sometimes you need to drive forwards and backwards in a straight line to get it to unlock.

Tried to reverse for a bit and see if it helps?? keep off the bitumen til you work it out. the hose switch may help in emergency til you get to workshop or home to manual and start to repair replace. easiest responce is windup and the reverce answer.

are your four tyres equal in size and roughly wear???
