I know there's probably a whole thread dedicated to this but I cant find it anywhere :(
Basically I've got a YN65 hilux (with 33's) which dosen't stop.... I mean it's rediculous!!!!
I've already fitted the larger 295mm drums and larger wheel cylinders to the rear and a 15/16 (23.81mm) master cyl (factory one was 7/8 20.64mm) But I just don't think it stops near as well as it could!!!
Basicaly I need to know If the discs off the LN106/RN106 (302mm vented) will fit onto my front end without modification, standard discs are solid 302mm.
And if they do fit will the callipers off the later models will bolt up to my swivel hubs and have the correct "offset" to suit the discs. I'm also thinking about going up to a 1" master cyl and 80 series booster.
If anyone has done this or has any hints, tips or suggestions it would be very much appreciated!!!! I'm prepared to spend a fair bit of money on this thing, I just wanna do my home work first!!

Hey mate, the larger calipers to suit the vented rotors bolt straight up to the swivel hubs and are the correct offset with the matching vented rotors. Same as 60 series Landcruisers too. The larger bore MC will make your pedal harder but have a shorter stroke. You might want to look at your brake booster as it may not be sealing properly - giving you less assistance. A dual diaphragm booster will bolt up. A 60 series LC booster will also bolt up and has a larger diaphragm but might get in the way of your throttle cable depending on the model.

I have a LN65, 86 mod.
I got the vented rotors and matching calipers from a LN106, and they bolted straight onto mine, same wheel bearings aswell. Im not sure what diameter they are though. But I know the calipers have 45mm pistons in them.
It was from a solid axle, early 90smodel.
Matched those up to an 80series brake booster and master cylinder.
As for the rear, I just got them rebuilt.
Brakes work awesome. Best mod Ive done so far.

Dudelux, Did you have to mess around with the length of the rod between the brake pedal and the booster??? Did mou have to have new brake lines made up to suit the 80 series master cylinder???

Yeah I had to fine tune the pushrod from the booster to the master cyl, and at the top of the pedal too, but it wasnt too hard.
Hard lines on the master are all stock Lux, I think the one at the front had to be bent around to go on the other side, compared to the Lux master.
Alot of people say to flip the booster upside down to amke it bolt up flush on the firewall, but I had not heard that, and I just egged the hole a bit to make it fit nicely.
If you end up going for an 80s booster and master, get one that will suit your brake setup, ie disc/drum.
from memory the early 80s had drum rear.

Yesterday I got my hands on an early 80 series booster. I too have seen that some people have flipped the booster upsie down but on mine it hits the top steering uni joint ( top uni measures 66mm across, but the one near the steering box is only 52mm across ). Looks like I'm gonna have to take a die grinder to the firewall to gain clearance. I'll let you all know how it goes

Thats all I did, die grinder to the hole in the firewall, made the round hole look more like an egg.

Here's whats happened to my YN65, with part numbers and sizes where I can :
*LN106 slotted discs (RDA151S) still the same diameter of 302mm but ventilated (20mm thick instead of 12mm)
*Recondtitoned LN106 callipers with Bendix 4X4 brake pads (DB11494WD)
My stanard axles with LN106 backing plates to allow the larger 295mm drums (rda1743) instead of the standard 254mm. Also using the LN106 shoes (R1660) and cylinders(JB3064, 22.22mm bore)
*early 80 Series HJ80 dual diapham brake booster and matching master cylinder (JB1879, 25.4mm)
I also fitted a brand new rear brake bais valve, and extended braided front brake lines.
The only problems I ran into were the front disc backing plates needed a small tap with the grinder to allow the callipers to fit, and the booster. I tried to Flip it 180* but it hit on the top steering uni joint, so I had no choice but to take to the top of the hole with a die grinder to gain clearance. I used the paper gasket off the origional booster as a template. As far as needing to adjust rods etc I didn't have to change a thing Everything lined up perfectly as if it were ment to be!
All up using brand new parts it cost me just under $900, But I think thats a small price to pay for a near 30 year old Hilux with 33's which would just about out break my Commodore!!!! I know it could have been one much cheaper using 2nd hand parts, but for my peace of mind i've made the right choice. I'd recomend this conversion to anyone with larger tyres or has a lux that was like mine that you have to stand on the brakes and hope you pull up!
It's booked in for the drive on 4 wheel "Plate Tronic" brake test next week, so I'll post the facts and figures as soon as I can.
