Getting 33's engineered in QLD.
Im looking to get my 4runner certified/ mod plated whatever so that i can run 33 inch tyres. Does anyone know where I can or even if I can get this done?! I'm new to QLD just shifted up from Nsw. I've not had this problem before as my previous mechanic was happy to turn a blind eye to it for roadworthy however when I went to get a QLD safety check the bloke said he can't pass it without a mod plate.
Spoke to a guy in Cleveland today who would happily mod-plate my 4runners 2 inch body lift but said there's no way he can do the tyres.
I can't be the only person in QLD running around on illegal tyres here.. I see patrols n luxes getting around running 35's etc all the time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't be done....15mm bigger in diameter over stock is the max. No way to engineer them in Qld either.

You just drive it, when/if you get caught, you pay the fine.
Funny thing is, you can drop in a V8 with double the power of your old motor, then go and get a $70 inspection done to be legal but slightly bigger tyres, nope, sorry.

Last time I looked into getting bigger tyres complianced, you had to be with 15mm over diameter of the largest placarded tyre size. If you can get Toyota to agree you could do it, but I do not think that is going to happen.
Otherwise you go down the line of small vehicle manufacturer, but I hear that is a very difficult and complicated process.
Just do what others do, drive until caught, change tyres, pay fine and change tyres again, not that I advocate that sort of activity.

There is no such thing as "getting something engineered" in Queensland (unless you're referring to mod plating, which, as stated above, cannot be done for tyres).

In Nsw I hear you can get tyres engineered / certified / mod -plated however you'd like to refer to it the same as you do lift kits, body spacers, engine conversions etc. I have read of vehicles previously certified to run 37's but that may have been some one stretching the truth a little. You regularly see trucks certified to run 33's in Nsw which becomes another positive selling point. I assumed before moving up this way it would have been possible up here also, however as stated isn't possible in QLD. Im half thinking of getting them certified before transferring rego over just in case I can expose a loop hole..

$100 when I got done in the lux. Said he wouldn't have pulled me up if I had flares and mud flaps which covered the tyres. I fitted monster rides flares after that and remounted the mud flaps wider then never had a problem.

I didn't know there was a fine... the only time I've been done I was sent to the pits. You DO NOT want to be sent to the pits.

This is the reason I'm looking into getting my tyres legalized. Ive just moved from Nsw to brissy and now have to go over the pits to transfer my rego to qld. Painful process but my truck even with 300 thou on the clock is actually breezing through it other than tyres and body lift. A couple minor oil leaks... Which 3vze hasn't?! And some brake pads should see it through once I get the body lift sorted and get some stockies on loan.

I have spoken to many engineers. It seems all they want to do is the easy jobs. 4wd's are not one of them. According to my link below, You can report them.

Hey that's a beauty of a FAQ cheers for posting it up. You're right the transition of this new engineering system is definitely clouded in terms of what can and can't be engineered. My information comes from two engineers who previously would entertain ideas of engineering larger tyres but their opinion seems to be 31's on a hilux, 33's on a Patrol/Cruiser with a total 100mm lift in both models and they gave no indication this was going to change moreso they both suggested this is the way it is now.

Just saw a 4runner on ebay which had 4 inch lift, 1uzfe conversion and 33 inch tyres fully engineered which sold for 15k in sydney last week..

I don't think QLD accept NSW certs.
NSW doesnt accept any other modplates/certificates atm

Yeah thats what Im in the process of finding out. The guy who went over my truck asked me for a mod plate for both body lift and tyres, he didnt specify where these had to be done, however before going ahead with this will double check that with him.
Tweed heads is bloody nice though. May still be an option...

I have my YN65 hilux booked in for an engineers certificate (VSCCS) of mid july just outside of newcastle. I rang and spoke to them about it having 2" body lift, 2" spring lift, and 33x12.5 tyres... They said no problem!!! But the vehicle must have a weighbridge ticket and pass a 4 wheel brake test, with a brake bias of 70% front 30% rear.
In order for mine to pass the brake test i'm fitting larger brakes off a LN106 and an 80 series cruiser booster & master cylinder. The engineer just needs to see photos of any modifications done to fit the brake setup, which is only the firewall where the hole for the booster needs to be enlarged, the rest bolts on as standard.
The engineer also needs to see there is "adequate clearance between the tyres and the body throught the range of motion of both the suspension and turning radius"
So, as far as I'm concerned 33s are still able to get engineered in NSW

I have heard of some engineers doing plates for bigger tyres. There used to be a code that they used. It's not legal by QLD transport anymore, but if you find an engineer that will put it on the car the muppets at the front desk won't even know, have a chat to a guy at mustang sally, I can't remember if it was him that said he would do it, as I have spoken to quite a few engineers now. I'll also have a chat to a couple of my other engineer mate's to see if anyone would be able to write it out. But just do like the rest of us here in the sunny state and keep a set of skinny's at home.

I'm hoping after a while under the new system some of what you can and can't do regarding these rules will become clearer. I'd love a system that wasn't based on tyre size just based on a series of standards the vehicle must meet in terms of fitment and braking performance. This part looks potentially promising:

been instructed to develop a series of brake tests that can be used to apply to a vehicle
based on the extent to which it has been modified. Their findings will be brought to the
