As some of you might know, I have done a cab swap on my LN65 Hilux.
I swapped my 86 body shell for a 84 body shell.
I had bought a complete 84 dual cab from a guy in Toowoomba, and used the body, and a few other parts from it.
The 84 lux, had a Safari turbo kit fitted by ARB Toowoomba(I know this because I found the receipts for $4500 in the glovebox when I was cleaning it out).
There is a blue plate on the firewall, I was told its for the turbo kit, the guy that sold it to me took the turbo, manifold and dump-pipe before I bought it.
Now, Im in NSW, and Im about to fit a fully rebuilt 2L to my Lux, and its got a CT20 turbo fitted to it.
My question is, normally I would need to get the turbo engineered, but this body shell has a blue plate for a turbo.
Will I still need to get my turbo certified??
I know its could be a no brainer, but I thought I would ask, because this car has the blue plate from QLD, does it mean anything here in NSW??

Wouldn't the blue plate have to match your chassis number. The only need for engineers report would be for insurance purposes so if its only got third party I wouldn't worry about it.

Im was just thinking that because its already got a blue plate for a turbo kit(even though its from QLD), I could get away with saying that my turbo mod is fine here in NSW.

never heard of having to mod plate a turbo in nsw? i thought that was only for poor buggers up north?
My Last Hilux had a turbo fitted - it looked after market.
It had to go to the rta for a identification check plus went through a Blue slip. not even an eyebrow was raised. was listed on my insurance and they didn't care either.

The qld blue plate means sfa in nsw. remove it or leave it there, doesn't matter.
You don't need to certify a turbo conversion for a hilux in nsw on the basis that
1. engine displacement does not change
2. toyota offered a turbo 2l-t in hilux and surf models (even though not necessarily in australia) and these vehicles retain the same suspension, steering and braking components of a domestic hilux. Ergo, the vehicle is already engineered for the performance upgrade

It may be engineered for the performance, but has it been tested for compliance with the ADRs? Having said that, I can't think of any tests (except perhaps emissions?) that ADRs might require that would be affected by the turbo - as oldmate mentioned, if steering, handling and brakes are the same then I can't think of any reason why ADR compliance would be affected.

It will be converted to power steering, and I will be running a Hi-steer setup.
Brakes have been upgraded to later model Hilux rotors/calipers, 80series booster/master.
But I know I have to get an engineer to look at this stuff, along with the front suspension mods.
