valve clearance
valve clearance
Gday, can anyone give me the cold valve clearance for a 4.2tdi? Thanks.
Re: valve clearance
never seen cold clearances, it would be handy if you could.
they are always done hot that I've seen.
At a wild guess if it's a fresh engine set for about 0.7mm then warm it up and do them hot. then check again as the cam beds in.
if its an old engine remember they will wear into a dome and cup shape slightly so do it very slightly tight to allow for that, or use a dial gauge instead of a feeler gauge.

Re: valve clearance
rather than using feeler gauges put the dial indicator onto the top of the rocker arm (near where it touchs the top of the valve) move the rocker up or down and read what the gauge says.Judge wrote:Hay mate set them hot both intake and exhaust at 14thou, put in on top dead adjust half then turn over 360 and adjust the other half. hope this helps, but what is the go with the dail intercator gauge ?????? cheers Rick.
