Forget that. Your truck will have diff's as pictured above. Go by the pics it will be exactly the same with a solid axle lux..

Have a look at the new 78/79/105 series Cruiser's with a 9.5" rear and 8" front. I purchased a front 105 series a while ago as it was listed as an LSD for 8" hilux diffs. It was a two piece open centre with the wrong spline count. The 105 series open rear is also two piece.
Cheers for the replies..... The diff apparently came out of a ln106, it's 4.875:1 an it looks like the top picture with the center enclosed.... but I cant see any clutch packs in there :(
YN65 X-Tra cab, 33's, 3" body lift otherwise stock. (the brumby got stolen)
It's a LSD if it looks like that. I'll put pics of one pulled apart later so you can see...

ok here is some pics, ssorry for the poor quality it was taken a fair while ago..
Shim it before you put it in, its easy to do or if you cant i'm sure some one will for a carton (cheap and effective) im currently rebuilding a 4.3 LSD at the moment...

not sure why some are big and some are small, in my photobucket they are all sized the same and not as bad quality.. any way sorry for the bad pics but gives you a idea

If it's in the car jack it up in neutral spin one back wheel if the other one spins the same way and with someone holding it a bit it still wants to spin the same way it's a LSD if it spins in the opposite direction it's a open centre. The 2 peice Toyota diffs are mostly a LSD however there is a 4 pinion open diff mainly found in the rear of gen1 hiluxs which were 4.88:1. Best bet jack it up and check it that way.

Yeh but for $0 you can shim it up and it can work real well. It's not hard to do and will still last a while (unless u drive like a tool), rear diff's are easy to pull out so once in 12 months just pull it out again and tighten it up again. If you put it in the front it will last alot longer..
But that's my opinion..

Where do you buy the shims for them? I have an lsd i took out that has a leaking front pinion seal. I have the parts to replace the bearings and seals and i'd love to tighten the lsd while im at it.
Cheers.

You can buy shims from Toyota, but do as said abOve, sheet metal of any description will work and put the shims right on outside of factory clutch washers preferably shim both sides the same. I usually start with 0.75mm either side and go from there. Have put up to 1.3mm either side in one.
