Hey just curious as to see if any of the winch guys run 24v spot lights when they have a 24v system for winching?
If so are they better than 12v setup?

24 volt lights used to be fairly common on the Vic winch scene. Yes they are better - 500W aircraft landing lights vs. 100W automotive lights? Awesome.

I believe they're somewhat fading out in favour of HID and LED, though.

Anecdote: I remember being in a car running a plethora of halogen driving lights. When i car behind us with 2 25V landing lights went to high beam we could clearly makle out our own shadow in our own high beam patch.

With the HID, LED light bars these days Evan there wouldnt be any real advantage of running a 24v lighting system in what we do.. or even every day driving.. If a light bar is positioned correctly it gives out massive amount of light.. Even the guys in the states that run speed events in the nights only run light bars these days...

But on the other hand would love to compare a 12v light bar to a 24v light bar ..

Most led light bars can run on anywhere from 9-36v. With no real difference in output. Only your current draw is affected.

I was interested to see how many people ran the 24v light setups thinking mainly winch guys as they would have a 24v system for the winch.

I run a 50" Rigid light bar on 12v, by all accounts there is no discernible difference running It in 24v, which I do have available via the winch set up.
I believe a 24v relay is all that's required to change it over, I may giveit a go one day ( night) just to check.

Have been in email and phone contact with Rigid in the US recently regarding some other issues, will ask them tomorrow.
My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.

there shouldnt be any benifit to the lighting given that most are multi volt LED/HID. There may be benifit to less load on the 12V alternator but then there is the downfall of having load on the 24V alternator when winching in race conditions. (negligible difference but there all the same)

24v Aircraft lights shit all over my Hella 4000 50w HID and LF240 100w HID lights. They werent great for distance. But awesome at just putting lots of light everywhere for a couple of hundred meters.
LED light bars have probably a just as good light pattern for a similar area for a fraction of the amps. I dont know what a 50" LED light bar uses as far as amps go. But the aircraft lights draw 20amps on 24v each. Most 24v alt I have seen are only 40-60amps. So there pretty much at max load, alternators are hard to spin at those loads.
