Re: EFI 5.0L into GQ patrol
dellows bellhousing kit is better then marks kit
search ebay for the wiring harness kits
best thing is take your time and do it properly the first time.
If you want to save some money there was yesterday a tb42 auto with dellows bellhousing to suit a ford motor for 600 bucks with better converter, buy that sell your gearbox and save some money in the mean time by not buying the conversion kit. then all you need to do is fab engine mounts, and it will be sitting pretty as pie.

Re: EFI 5.0L into GQ patrol
How many other people hear have done a 5l conversion eather using a ford or Holden EFI v8. How do u rate it what's the good poins and the bad points when driving on the road and 4x4ing.
Re: EFI 5.0L into GQ patrol
I dont rate it at all. Holden v8 as much as I love them dont make much power. You can get more out of s TD42. I dunno about the fords, maybe they are better.
I'd be turboing your TB42 instead. Much easier. probably cheaper too.

Re: EFI 5.0L into GQ patrol
The tb42 in it at the moment has 360000 ks on it so would need a rebuild then turbo and manifolds and aftermarket ecu so a bit outa my price range.
It's a toss up between turbo td42 or EFI v8 the v8 being a little cheaper to do course I can get a engine for about $300 Dellow kit for $500 and a j3 chip for $200 and still run the car on LPG.

Re: EFI 5.0L into GQ patrol
A stock 5L will be pretty slow (still rape a tb42 tho lol) but if you ever wanted more power the options are endless!
A few other things to remember, exhaust (will have to go around transfer somehow), fuel system, cooling system? can probably use the TB radiator.
I have been thinking about doing it to mine, also contemplating a BA 6cyl because they're cheap, make good power, easy to turbo and very reliable. But they don't have that V8 note!

Re: EFI 5.0L into GQ patrol
That's it carnt beet that v8 sound.
What would I do with the power steering? adapte the gq hoses to the ford pump I thought would be the easiest way to go.
And the file pump I will have to go with a external electric fuel pump hay.

Re: EFI 5.0L into GQ patrol
is there any one eals thats done a v5 patrol conversion on this websit im keen to see some pics.
Re: EFI 5.0L into GQ patrol
I had a turbo TD42 which made 85kw atw, and that was pretty well set up perfectly, running a conservative 12psi.
My winch truck has a warm 304efi in it and although it is not as torquey, the 155kw atw on 33's is pretty nice
As for more power? I will be pulling it and putting a 355 stroker in it with a bit of a cam, with a view to put a Yella Terra supercharger kit in. But not before I see this year out.
The holden v8 is a good engine still, and I have had no problem with having it underwater as opposed to LS-series electrics. It is not a finicky engine and runs all day. Great value for money.
There are better options, different budgets and different aplications, but for me, now, the holden v8 is not giving me any reason to want to pull it. A nice auto, however, would make it just that bit more better.
Good luck with it mate, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

hi ya yazhole im running a 355 stroker with a T700 up its ass in my Gu patrol. It gives me 220hp @ the wheels runnin 35s with 4.11 diff gears. The camshaft that i put in was a 218/218 with a 112lsa and at 100kph it rev 2200 so not to bad but thinkin bout 3.9 diff Its no power house by no means but its reliable. The cost for the conversion was bout 5500$ all the work was dun by me. Im takin the 355 out to be replace with a 383, not quite sure on a camshaft for the 383 yet
what box are you using (auto/man) do your own engine mounts and steve @ killa kustom makes loom for most conversions
before you start count your coins before you open the bonnet , theres no right or wrong motor for your conversion its what you can afford at the time ive seen conversion start and never finish
Any way yazhole best of luck for the conversion and keep asking questions
shit happen's & ass holes cause it
