Tuff Truck 2013 - Results...

Post by Tuff Events »

Hi All

In the interest of safety & design rules for Tuff Truck, the following rules have been amended with additional clarification.

Roll Cages: AMENDMENT- 01/7/2012: Enforced on all new teams immediately & all existing teams from 2014.

Min 2.5mm Wall Thickness 2″ 50.8mm or 1.75″(44.45mm OD) Tube must be used for the b-pillar hoop, if the A&B Pillar are one piece, they must also be 1.75″. Including the cross Horizontal brace in the roof that joins the A to A & B to B-Pillar ( from left to right side of vehicle )
All other associated bracing is to be a minimum of 1.5″ OD 38.1mm / 2.5mm min wall thickness tube. ( 1-3/4 recommended )

For all teams building new vehicles, we strongly recommend that your build your entire cage using 1-3/4″ throughout the entire construction.

NO PIPE Sizes are allowed. i.e 33.4mm OD / 42.2mm OD / 48.3mm OD – Commonly known as Nominal Bore – 25Nb / 32NB / 40NB Black Pipe.

Mounting plate size and thickness, as with pipe diameter, type and wall thickness along with mounting hardware should reflect the vehicle mass. You will not require an internal cage if your external ( Exo ) cage is up to spec.

Refer to CCDA for further design clarification http://www.ccda4wd.com.au/images/CCDAFW" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... sinRed.pdf.

Front Vehicle Profile

This is applicable to all teams from today forward.

Original Grill / headlight surround must be 80% of original size. eg. if yours is factory width 1000mm, then you can only re-size down to 800mm. if yours is 1200mm, then your minimum size is now 960mm. Inclusive of Headlights for all vehicles.

You must retain your Original Headlight Glass surround. NO Spot lights will be allowed.

Spot lights or led lights are permitted inside the original headlight glass if achievable.

Headlight modifications are allowed, but must use the original headlight glass. You must Contact TEPA for approval prior to modifying!

They can also be viewed here: http://tufftruck.com.au/competitor-info ... gulations/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you have any questions regarding your build, please email the details below.

The Nominal bore black pipe work rule is fair. That pipe is weak as piss. People only use it before its cheap not safe incomparison to cold drawn.

Head light rule is pointless as all hell. It gives most people in the field less lighting. I think the rule should say something like.

"spotlights are permitted if original headlight size is used and in original headlight location and confirguration. No spotlights to be used if re located or if different size to original headlights. No LED lights allowed in replacement of headlights."

But thats cool. Ill take my spotties out and put factory lights back in there if i have to. its just it gives me shit loads less lighting for no reason as they are in factory proportions and position.

Screwy you can use a spotlight, but it must be behind the original headlight to retain the factory look. You would need to modify the back of the original light housing to allow the spotlight to bu used.
This rule is to ensure the look of the vehicle is 100% clear.

Can I ask how you came to this conclusion? Sounds like you also have not read the rules, let alone the two paragraphs that began this topic.

Yeh thats cool. Ill just gut some original headlights to get the glass and put it in front of the light.

Out of interest, does the headlight rule also apply for previous competitors for 2014? or it that one a 2013 for all cars rule?

I personally think that enforcing these rules is overdue and glad to see it happen. It would only take one serious accident for the event to be put into jeopardy.

Of course its overdue, but why wait so long to implement it. But to wrap my zook in 1 3/4 TUBE is stupid, may be needed to wrap your heavy weight patrol in it but the zooks don`t need such heavy shit. Ive roofed my zook plenty of time with 38.1, not hardly a scratch on it. Ive roofed so many times , I like roofing it ha ha. That headlight rule is stupid as aswell, . This whole show is one big penis extension if there ever was one. It can turn somewhat normal people in the most arrogant fcukw1ts Ive ever seen!

I wonder if someone has an interest in Performance Metals Australia? and all these people will be needing to re-bend their cages, where do you get a JD from?

Maybe they should ban any other tyre but Interco as well?

Money must be getting tight :P

I'm sorry Bentzook but that is a pretty naive post. the size & weight of the vehicle is only a small part of the cage design. The structure layout & size limitations are based around a standard that has been found to be the most efficient & effective in rollover protection. If you are in a multi rollover (like what is very possible at TTC) the roll can increase in speed & therefore centrifugal forces are increased.
I find it amazing how some people think they know better than experienced & tested of time qualified individuals. But meh !! If your knowledge & wisdom is better than the people who wrote the CAMS & CCDA regulations well ...... maybe you should contact them & have the rules rectified with your on testing results & structure standards certifications.

Marcus it's your fault that you didn't read the CCDA rules which say 1.75" pipe. Those rules were there well before you caged your zook!
And just because you have laid yours over a couple of times softly doesn't mean you can't have a big roll and either fark your truck or worse yourself and the sport vets even harder with insurances!

Like Benny said knowone is forcing you to enter! But you need to remember this is the spec for all CCDA event such a toperi, the opposite lock thing in sept all of them! So either chop and redo or have a nice social car ;)

Where's the 'like' button?
I had the pleasure of meeting one of the gentlemen involved in running tuff truck over the weekend, and I can assure you he nor any of the other people involved in this show are 'arrogant fcukw1ts'.
It could be said that in fact YOU are, for having made that comment.
The people running this sort of gig put an awfull lot of their life into it; no decisions are ever made lightly, and I'm sure they've many reasons for making this one.
Rules like this just lift the whole standard of our sport, which we should be aspiring towards any way.

Marcus, can you clarify one point for me?

What material are you using? . You mentioned 38.1mm. What wall thickness is it?

Pipe has a seam! Tube doesn't! I work with pipe all day at work, it is absolute rubbish. Has anyone seen the difference between pipe and tube in a press? I know what i'd be using. Anyone with half a brain wouldn't use NB pipe for a cage.
