EDIT: The diff fell through.
If anyone knows of a complete XJ cherokee axle with diff, brakes, the lot. out of a wreck for sale please check out my wanted ad
Thanks
I have a 97 xj limited with a rooted rear diff. I know of a donor 95 xj limited and was wondering if there is any differences between the two.
Planning on swapping the whole housing (hub to hub and everything between) over to the 97 from the 95?
Any problems with that? Chassis mounts the same size etc?
Thanks,
Daniel

Re: 95 xj Limited to 97 xj Limited Axle swap
ALL XJ series came with leaf rear (same size springs all the way through the XJ series) although sports models had 1" higher lift IIRC
All have the same drum brakes and cable handbrake.
Most are Dana 35c diffs, some XJ's had a Chrysler 8.8" rear diff which is a better/stronger unit. Fairly uncommon however. In US some also had dana 44 rear diffs, although these were never an option or factory fitment here.
There was a differnce in ratios between petrol/auto and diesel/manuals (the only two engine/trans options)
I believe all petrols had the same ratios, as did all diesels
If both cars are Petrol/Auto's it will be a straight swap.

Re: Rear Diff Wanted for 97 Cherokee
i thought the earlier XJ's had different ratio's to the later models, thought they changed with the 3 speed and 4 speed autos
i would be looking at using a rear from a TJ, you can buy a kit to change from the coil spring TJ mount to the Leaf spring XJ mount but you would need to change the front ratio to match
more work involved but an option that will make you much happier

Re: Rear Diff Wanted for 97 Cherokee
Thanks Mate. Looking to sell it so happy to get it back to standard. A member has suggested it is probably just the bearing so i'll get that checked first.
