4wd 5speed into 2wd that has 4speed..

Post by foolsp33d »

A Mate has a 2Y motor in his 1990 2wd hilux(currently running a 4 speed) and has obtained a 4wd 5speed also from a petrol engined hilux.year is unknown to me . im not sure if it is an 18r, 22r or a 2Y. Question at hand: Is it a matter of just dropping the transfer off the 5 speed and bolting it onto the 2Y in the 2wd. or are other issues going to plauge him.

I have not seen the box, I cant Identify if the bell housings or splines are the same. Am just a middle man trying to help a young fella get an extra gear so any info or help you fellas can shed on the swap would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance for any replys that are somewhat helpful..

R & Y engines share the same bellhousing pattern but I can't say for sure if the 4wd box will go into a 2wd car.
I doubt it.
