Outers orical. Broken crank shaft ?

Post by uted1 »

Ok, so a mate dropped off his hilux this morrning.Arrived on a tilt tray  . Says it was making all sorts of funny noises," i think it's done a clutch". I'm 99% sure he's busted the engine crank. With the vehicle in gear clutch out, on a hill it will just roll unless you have the brake on. If you crank it over in gear with clutch out the vehicle will creep forward but none of the pulleys turn on the front of the engine  and it won't fire. So what does the outers orical think. Crank or possibly something else. I really can't be botherd stripping it down to investigate futher if it's stuffed anyway. Oh And it has a series two commodore V6 fitted and hilux box.

Thanx

Even with a sheared keyway it would still fire... Sounds like a busted crank, I'd say towards the back. Do a compression test on all cylinders starting from the rear and you'll soon see.

And take pics. I love carnage pics.

Not on these... they have a crank angle sensor attached to/near the back of the harmonic balancer... if it doesn't turn you get no spark.

OK, was assuming that if a CAS was fitted it would be attached to bellhousing/rear of the crank. I stand corrected.
