G'Day All,
I have a 4.6mt ally runabout that I want to tidy up a bit before I sell it. At the moment it is just plain old weathered ally that has never seen paint.
Just wanting to know if there is a paint/product (in white) out there I can spray or roll straight over the hull with minimal preparation but still provide a reasonably resilient & respectable finish. It doesn't have to look new, just decent.
Hoping for a product that doesn't require a primer.
Thanks.

Re: Painting Aluminium
Ask on the Land Rover forum... They are ally so someone there will be able to say how to do it properly.. Get it wrong and the paint will blow off.

Re: Painting Aluminium
I think you have to use an etch primer first, dont you?
Mud makes excellent toothpaste.
Re: Painting Aluminium
When I painted my tinny I used etch primer first.
I had no luck finding something that would go and stay on without primer.

Re: Painting Aluminium
I have painted aircraft (blackhawks) and the process is pretty simple, I am not sure where you get the gear from now though.
1. Wash the area
2. Acid wash called Deoxidine.
3. Prep for primer called Allodine.
4. Primer. Standard.
5. Paint. Standard.
Any more questions please ask.

Re: Painting Aluminium
There's an easier and cheaper way. As mentioned above give the boat a good clean with a red or green scotch brite and Deoxadine and make sure you follow the instructions and use the right safety gear with this stuff. Then Paint it in LIC 40. It's a 2 pack paint that doesn't require etching and is one of if not the strongest paints you can get. It's actually stronger then the best powder coats and is harder then any other industrial paint on the market. It's also very cheap.

And where you can get it from.
