hey guys, sorry if this sounds short and to the point but i just accidently deleted a big write up...



anyway, this is a sort of update to truck i bought a few months ago.

Gu st wagon td42t which was stock as a rock engine wise 290k , since then i have fitted a boost/egt gauge, boost controller, 3'dump/exhaust and a staino 3.5 inch airbox lid.



boost was upped to 11.5 psi max and fuel screw was turned in 1/8 of a turn, while it did go better i was hoping for more to be honest.. so that got me reading up on all the threads on tuning a td42t.

this might not sound good but i have tried to get it hot in the egt department and cant get past 440 deg and as soon as that is reached iv ran out of hill and back of with temps very very quickly dropping back down to the 250-300 mark.



Now my old man grew up rebuilding these dinosaur pumps as well as toyo's/discos etc so im not at all worried about him playing with the boost compensator and timing but i do like the idea of having a dyno to make sure the a/f ratio is all good and everything else is in sync.



being in Newcastle there is bugger all guys that KNOW how to tune patrols so i gave turboglide(a few mates have had work done by them with good results) a call at woollongong and spoke to John about the ins and outs and he said id be looking at about the 85-90rwkw and 3-500$ which is fine but i was hoping for the magic 100kw mark.

i have a top mount ford FPV cooler and sti scoop to pout on soon, so after that im thinking of taking it down to John and let them do there thing.

i played with my patrols to much in the past and ended up costing my self more cash in having more problems then its worth!



if anyone can shed some imput and or comment of turboglide(pm if needed) that would be great, as i feel my truck is capable of a lot more

yeah i though about giving Joel a call, trouble is with him being so far away i wouldnt be able to get him to tune it and run it on the dyno.
its easy to explain things over the phone but when it comes time to doing it and being sure it all runs properly is a different story ;)

while on the topic i told John from turboglide about my plans to fit a top mount cooler and he sort of said im waisting my time(as opposed to a front mount)..my argument was any cooler is better then no cooler and after the benifets iv read from all the forum topics in regarding upgrading top mounts on ZD30 and td42t etc i think il still push for the top mount.got to love the big scoop look :cool:

i got a turboglide turbo kit of my truck so know their quality is pretty good. as for their workmanship im not sure as i fitted it myself. but he seems to know a bit about whats going on with diesel engines.

also for what its worth. pull the top of the compensator off. pull the diaphragm out. wind the spring seat nut down a turn. turn the diaphragm 90 degrees think its counterclockwise. but if you look you will be able to tell which way you need to turn it so the pin travels out further and go for a drive. this should help heaps.
then if temps are still cold remove one of the shims from under the diaphragm and see how that goes. this should give heaps better driveability.
your old man should be able to help ya. as long as egts are ok and there isnt a james bond style smoke show coming out the back id give it a crack yourself mate.

cheers mate, i dont know whats wrong with outers on my computer but everytime i go to post something its deletes it... lost another big post! :bad-words:

anyway long story short again, i decided to add another 1/8 more fuel and it didnt go any better and didnt get any hotter. so i backed it off and decided to get Rob Rosie at Kotara to tune it for me. Hes right on the ball as far as my newcastle research tells me. Very good diesel tuner!!

im not to worried about playing with it my self as im sure it wont blow up in one day but im sure there is a fine line between going a little better to going ALOT better, and at the moment the oldman is away working quite a bit and the last thing he wants to do is test drive my truck all day testing it...
it was hard enough to convince him to do my injectors.
dont get me wrong i love playing with my cars but at the moment all my energy is going into my newly formed business and time is limited and and if have spare time on the wknd id rather be out surfing with the boys.

i have also decided against the top mount cooler and have instead mounted it where my winch used to be and have almost got all the plumbing done, just waiting on two bends to be delivered. il be chopping the bar up to allow more air but even at the moment i reckon it would shit it in for efficency.

il stay posted on the results once its tuned :armsup:
