Gq swb wheelbase extension.

Post by gudge »

Who is doing all the neat wheelbase extensions down south, more interested in the body work side of things. Ive done a extension on my old swb ute but now I'm starting to get the itch again. And those full body middys look hot!!!! How do you clear the rear body mounts, and modify the interior? Would love to have a crack myself, but how much work is in it to looks factory?

Seems to be a few competing in cliffhanger, so I'm assuming NSW and Vic.

Most of the guys just modify the wheel wells and rear quaters. They don't change the interior at all.

Basically the guys cut the wheel well section out of the rear quater and move it back. Then fill in the gaps. Sounds simple but easy to stuff up if and make it look strange if not done properly.

To be honest, I'm not sure. If you do a body lift at the same time you could simply lift the tank to sit on top of the chassis instead of below it or you could use the sub tank or even have a tank made or use a fuel cell. I'm putting a GU ute cab on my truck so its not really an issue. I'll have the fuel tank in front of the diff.

You will need two smaller custom tanks.

This is the neatest one I have seen so far.

Roger at Townsville Offroad Centre does em.

He does a fantastic job, relocates the diff 10' then does all the body work to suit, ie: cuts a lwb door down and grafts it in, if you didn't know any better it would look stock.

Builds a new fuel tank and fits it up, from memory it came in about 120 odd litres.
