I use 15w-40 synthetic. I've had my 4.8 for 7 years brought it with 205k on the clock now up to 306k my mechanic in cairns inform me to use this oil and premium fuel and I haven't had any dramas and i drove on 33in bighorns

Mine has used a little oil since I changed to 5W-30, got 165k km's. IMHO I think its too thin, but I ran 15W-50 which I thought was way too thick and made it run slightly rough.

The manual does specify 10W-30, and 5W-30 for Europe/European conditions only. Can go as high as 20W-50 in hot conditions though.

Mobil1 0W-40 is slightly thicker and maybe be a better option. I'm going to this on my next oil change.

FYI GL Lubricants in NSW seem to be the cheapest place to purchase Mobil 1 lubes, as well as Redline. NIck is a good bloke to deal with.
