Hilux 253 and QLD rego issues

Post by Zookified »

Hey all,

I have recently bought a 1994 4wd single cab lux. It was originally a 22r but the previous owner has had a 253 put in and a gas setup as well as petrol. The conversion was mod plated but the rego left as a four cylinder.

I bought it without rwc and fixed up a few small things with the help of a mate (i drank and he did the work, what are mates for!) Anyway the gas system was installed in someones backyard whilst heavily on the piss I presume. The brackets and mounting were dodgy as shit, and the gas lines were zip tied in. I tried to get it complianced but no one would touch it obviously. So I pulled the gas out of it and went back to straight petrol.

Now my question is will it be able to be regod in QLD without gas? Some things I have read said no, some said it will have to be straight gas only and some have said dual fuel is ok.

Now I know that the engine has to comply with the vehicles year ADR's, but seeing as though the 22r is a carby would the 253 be the same spec? Can anybody shed some light on my situation, will I have to re install the gas properly to get it through?

thanks in advance for any replies

The last 253 in a Commo was about 1984 I think.
No way in hell it will pass in a 94 Lux in Ql;d on petrol or even dual fuel.
Straight LPG is the only way to get it approved... Either that or fit a later model EFI motor.

Yep, fit the gas back up properly & you should be sweet.

The trouble with QLD mod plates is that the engineer does the certification, fits the plate but then that is pretty well it from him. It is up to the owner to do the change of details & quite often this doesnt happen (I used to see this all the time when I was working at ACT Rego).

Do you have the original engineers cert?
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
No they ain't, I'm just in front...............

Nah mate, no paperwork.

As far as I was aware it just had to be inspected and blue plated and you were good to go in Qld.

Cheers for the replys

Not 100% on this but in QLD there must be paperwork from a licensed gas installer to certify the install before a mod plate can be fitted.
