hey all im looking at buying a 1998 D22 nissan navara with 300thou kms on the clock its the 3.2L diesel which I've heard is a fairly bulletproof donk.
The eventual plan is to turbo it, but first how well do these engines and utes hold up with this many kms on the clock ?! would turboing it with these kind of kills basically kill the motor?!
Anything to look out for when buying the 1998 dual cab D22's ?!

compression test it first. if its in good nick it will handle turbo fine, they are a solid motor.
they have bigger diffs than the later ones which is a plus.
rear springs sag fairly easly.
otherwise they are a basic workhorse that hasn't changed much over the years.

thanks, ive performed compresssion tests on 4 cyl petrol motors with distributors before and checked for even compression across all cylinders but never on a diesel before.
Is there particualr figures you look to achieve or just even compression across all cylinders?!
What to you have to disconnect to perform this test and can you use a normal compression tester ?!

i havn't done it myself but i understand there is a diesel compression tester, it just handles the higher pressures of a diesel. also it will have different adapters so it can fit glow plug or injector locations.
just unplug the fuel solenoid to stop the engine from running.
you want to make sure it s fairly even pressures but mainly that the pressures are on the high side of the allowable range for that engine. i don't have the specs on hand.

D22's do have a good motor but i have heard that the turbo's are not much chop. would advise to change the turbo to an after market one

which motor and which turbo are you refering to?
the TD27 turbo, which is common used on the 3.2, works well enough usually good to 18psi or so. tho i would go 15 psi max.
otherwise you can get the original QD32T turbo manifold and turbo.
aftermarket turbo's take your pick. there was some cast turbo manifolds being sold on ebay a while back. fit t3 turbo i think.
just make sure you fit a big enough air filter housing.
