Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the evakool range of fridges (not icebox's, i've got a mate with one, they're pretty good). anyway, we're looking at getting one, so want some first hand experience.
also, can anybody hook me up with a good price
EDIT-> i've heard froma a few people that engels really are the way to go, so where's a good place to pick up one of these? and is the anniversary model still available? the one with the temp gauge?

boots outdoor/camping world has the anniversary special 40 litre on special, I think $960, abt $150 off the rrp and the anniversary special has built in thermometer. it's hard to get a good price on engels, there is not much margin in them for the retailers and they tend to sell ok at or about the rrp anyway.
I've read some good reports on the Evakools on other forums- and they use the same Danfoss (spelling?) compressors as the Waecos.
A relation has a 32 litre Engel and it works really well. Used it for five days over Easter on a 100A/Hr battery and the charge indicator on the battery still indicated full at the end of the trip!
I have a Waeco 40 ltr and it is great. I got it for $819 and it hasn't let me down yet. I have been able to let it sit for a day or two on a single battery nad managed to start the car. It works well in varying temps and can freeze stuff if required. I have an external thermometer to monitor the temp in the fridge. On 40?+ days it will keep the bevvies nice and cold. Definetly recommend them.
PS With the money you save on getting a Waeco buy an insulated bag makes a huge difference
Olbis over at Rocklea do some great deals on Engel fridges, they move a lot of stock over there. Buy an Engel, you'll be handing the engel over to the grandkids...
We have an ARB fridge (which is just a rebadged engel). We use it on our little yacht & believe me if it can survive 2mtre seas & 40 knot wind on moreton bay, it can survive anything you can throw at it off-road. We did alot of research & found that most fridges in Oz have to comply to our standards so it really comes down to things like personal choice (der), & service type stuff. Also we went engel because friends of ours have an engel that has basically gone around australia umpeteen times because they've had it for over 15 years & it still is as good now as when they bought it. It doesn't look the same eg it is rusty & bruised but that in itself is testimony to its performance.
If we can put one man on the moon, why can't we put them all there!!
yes, this is why i've decided to go the engel for my present. i've only heard good things about the reliability of em. a mate's arb fridge has survived a rollover in the back of a ute, and also lauching over a washout, so i'm impressed
