80 series front bake backing plates
If I simply remove these will it harm any hub internals? Didn't wont to hack them up. I found that there is a kit for 40 & 60 series. Can't seem to find much else on them. Some help would be good.

are you talking about the pressed metal plate that stops rocks and mud getting on your rotors? Yes you can remove them. You simply delete those from the assembly when you put it all together.

IIRC on the 75 the backing plate is sandwiched between the spindle and swivel housing. It must be replaced with a spacer to allow adequate space for the cv and for correct alignment of hub seals and brake caliper. I did this on my 75 with no obvious disadvantages.
Advantage is that the guard didn't fill with shit and I haven't suffered serious brake fade since removing the cover (though this is unquantifiable evidence)
Edit: I've realised the plate is not between the spindle and the swivel housing, its between the hub seal and spindle, same as 80 series. There should be enough area for the seal to run on the hub without spacer still, assuming the 'new' surface is in good condition (should be on the cleaner side of the seal anyway)

The 80series bolt on, on the outer side of the spindle, so won't affect CV if left off. They are supposed to direct air onto the motor, but I would have no hesitation leaving them off.

The CV is inside all that and won't be affected by leaving out the brake backing plate, the hub is positioned by the wheel bearing, the Inner bearing stops against a shoulder on the spindle, unaffected by the brake backing plate.
Incidentally, I munted a backing plate on my 105series today (dont ask how ) its slightly different to my 80series, the 80series had little scoops and vents facing forward to collect cool air, my 105series has flat plates, no scoops.

There's only a couple of reasons why they are there in the first place.
1/ to try and prevent the obvious rubbish and stick rocks and shite directly impacting the rotor
2/ and for roadworthy purposes in QLD- for in the event of some mindless suicidal twit walking out in front of your Mt Everest/ Externally blown injected v8 mountian motored, jacked up ride,,, and having some part of their mindless anatomy being entwinded in your rotating hub assembly, as they disappear under the bullbar of your truck, greatly enhancing the mental health gene pool of australia.
And of course, regardless to all the other modification to your beast, lack of backing plates will surely get you a fail.

The most important reason is that they guide air over the rotor. Which is why i would keep mine...
What do you gain in removing them??
