diesel into a vitara lwb

I am looking into purchasing my first zook prob v6 vitara lwb with a shagged engine.

has anyone ever dona adiesel swap??? if so what was used and would you recommend the the trouble????

the reason i want diesel is because i do alot of outback work and plan to tow a trailer!!!


Any info on engines weights power ect will be greatly appriecated

you dont need a diesel to go bush or to tow a trailer, i would spend my money elsewhere.

yeah im with supazuk.
not that it cant be done, just thats its alot of work. I'd be more thinking of either carrying a few more jerry cans or buying another car thats diesel from factory. I'd be hedging my bets on the later. sorry to burst your suzuki bubble. it will far less of a head f... .
an engine swap will require a cert ( other wise you will not be covered by insurance) and when the engineer asks you why you want it done, he or she will most likely tell you the same thing as i have.

Any diesel worth putting in would cost more then buying another diesel 4x4
The 2l Kia would be great
Diesels are great for towing but suck in a 4wd as they have a small rev range
Drop in a 2.5 gv motor
Or best I've seen yet a 1.8turbo out of a vw
200 rwhp would pull a trailer nice

The wiring in doing that would be a head f^&k in its self. ALL the 1.8T VW engines require vin verification from the head unit, ecm and tcm (if it came out as a Auto). The gen1 was the only one you can turn the immobilizer off on and there is no way in hell you would ever get 200rwhp out of the gen1. In fact unless you spent some MAJOR $$$$$ on any of the 1.8T.
To add to that you would have to run a 4motion Passat trans behind it. That would put the end of the trans somewhere under the rear seats. Unless a custom bell housing was made up or they used a FWD trans and welded up the diff. Either way there is no older (1.8T time frame 1988-2007) trans that would bolt up to it that would handle 200rwhp.

If you were talking about the 2.0TFSI then getting that kind of power would be a little easier but you would still have the same trans problem in that all the nth/sth trans are very long. To add to that you are dealing with a engine that requires Can-Bus data link to run. In that you need a S#!TLOAD of wiring and even more modules to keep it running plus a key Fob.

The engine that all the Americans use is a 1.9 TDi out of the Gen1,2,3 (they are the most common over there) sold between 1983 and 2006. They can be run on 4 wires to a aftermarket ECU. Using the factory harness can be run without any other inputs other then key. This is why its so often used.
The Pumpai Dues know as the PD diesel was a hybrid between the 1.9 and the common-rails came around in 2008 that are useless. (only sold in USA and parts of euro)
The CRD would be near imposable without factory help to get running unless it was in the VW it cam from.
When the CRD first came out I had a customer bring us a complete car (2008) that was in a role over and wanted us to put the CRD into his 2006 golf. I don't know how much he payed for the wrecked car but it ended up costing him over $6000 for us to do it.

Anyway long story short PLEASE let me see this LWB Sierra with a 1.8T VW engine that has 200rwhp so I can piss my self while giggling like a little school girl at how much BS the owner is putting out there.

I worked for VW both in a dealership and head office as a tech trainer for almost 13years and I am sure I know a few people that would love to see this.

I would be looking at the 2.5GV or 2.7L XL7 motor to drop into the 2L wagon

engines drop in easily compared to others as they ran 2.5L in some markets over sea's.

from waht i have heard you could use the same computer for the 2.5L and then putting in 5.12 diff ratios from the old 1.6 wagons will help with gearing to so you could run 30- 31s with a vehicle that felt stock plus the bigger engine.

it will let you tow easier, have more grunt but fuel may work out to be the same.

Towing benifits are irrelevant for the 2L wagon as suzuki only rated them to 420kg or something stupid like that. The J20 SWB actually has a higher tow rating :? Infact it is likely the 2.5 will weigh more than the 2L v6, further reducing the available tow weight once the higher kerb weight is subtracted from the GVM.

Also check with an engineer first, as there may be other reqirement like a brake or suspension upgrade to account for the extra power and weight.

well been a while but my 1.9 intercooled turbo diesel Peugeot has been written off..... so we have a doner,,, stay posted just need to find a vehicle suitable for the transplant!

you will find the peugeot engine can be bolted up, I think you will have difficulty with the inlet manifold though, fowling the brake servo and steering.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

Yeah the donor car was written off in the flood we had here in cairns so that diesel idea has been shelved for a while

I am pretty sure the 1.9 Pug motor was actually factory option in some euro countries and possibly NZ.
