1.Yes the 2L will bolt straight in. I swapped all of the old brackets and mounts from my L to the 2L. I believe the 3L and 5L should be similar, but i cant confirm this.
2. Depending on how sagged the suspension is (if it is standard) you will easily fit 31' tyres, maybe 32" without rubbing. This also depends on wheel offset. Both of these sizes are illegal in QLD, but 90% of hilux's run 31's anyway and get away with it.

I believe engine mounts and gearbox will bolt up to any L engine, but the later 2L and all 3L/5L have a different head design and may need some modifications for throttle brackets and the like.

Can use the 2WD engine in the 4WD but will need to change sump and oil cooler housing, bout 99% sure the oil cooler housing from the L will work, but have a feeling the sumps change for the later stuff, and it isnt just the difference between gasket and FIPG the shape also changes slightly too. but double check the sumps.
The old Luxy was fun, but with a young family comes great responsibility.
So I swapped it for a 60. Should be able to take the whole mob camping, plus I got an extra gear, 2 less cylinders and A/C.
