Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
As the subject line suggests, I’m interested in who managed to bust the left hand side CV in their GQ and how.
I have theory that the right hand side CV is more prone to being destroyed as there is way less torsional flex in the short axle on the right compared to the left.
I managed to destroy my rhs CV in the Vic Alps doing a right turn hairpin bend downhill. I’m now thinking of upgrading to strengthened Haultech CVs, but I’m not sure if I really need to do both sides or only the short side.
Cheers

Re: Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
Yep. And seen others done.
Broke mine in reverse with the locker in . That was in low range with 33's with no power. Snapped the axle on the RHS. Not sure which went first, as there was only seconds in it.

Long side and short Side CV's

To smash .

Re: Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
Thanks for the responses. Looks like I'm going to upgrade both sides. I can't justify the cost of Cal ChroMo CVs, so I'm looking into either the Yuri or Haultech strengthened CVs. Can anyone comment on either of them?
Re: Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
after puttin the lockright in the front of my gq i busted 2 std cvs so in went a set of haultech ones and havent had a problem since. im runnin a 7" spring lifted twin locked gq on 35s and it gets driven hard if i were to build another truck id definately go haultech again..JBE wrote:Thanks for the responses. i drive a suzuki
Re: Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
It is hard to justify the pricw of the cal CV's and axles but I have to say I havent busted any of it since it went in. Thats not to say you cant break em, just that its great not to worry about that stuff when your getting stuck in... Depends on how hard your going to treat em.
Re: Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
yeh i did mine coming off the cutting at di at the start of the year... caused loads of damage from busting bearings to warping the spindle... bugger of a thing to replace i gave up trying to pop the cv off the axle... i just went and got a whole new cv on an axle from the wreckers lol...
Re: Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
One thing i have tried that worked to get the axel out of the cv was to put the axel into a peice of pole (that is longer than the axel ) and bash/ drop the pole down on its end hard on the floor so the axel drops into the pole and off the cv - Hope this makes sence as its a hard thing to explain !! .diesel_boy wrote:yeh i did mine coming off the cutting at di at the start of the year... caused loads of damage from busting bearings to warping the spindle... bugger of a thing to replace i gave up trying to pop the cv off the axle... i just went and got a whole new cv on an axle from the wreckers lol...
Re: Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
I tried everything to seperate the axle from the CV and nothing worked. I ended up carefully cutting the sphere between the star and the bell so that the bearing balls dropped out. Then, I carefully ground down the star on the axle until I could split it.
On another note, I'm now really happy with my Haultech CVs. They are now well and truely run in and the self centering issue (lack thereof) has improved a lot.

Re: Who has busted a GQ LHS CV
For me it was more cost effective to stop driving like a dick. But I only had a NA TD42.WICKED wrote:turps wrote:GQ with Cals are stronger than a std GU.

But like the conversation I had with a mate the other day. I just wish I knew how much I was going to end up spending at the start. As then my winch would be a gigglepin with all the fruit and my axles would be HP Dana60's.
