1uz-fe Tacho hook up

Post by Blackened »

Well when I bought my hilux with the 1uz conversion done all it came with was the speedo, fuel gauge and tempo hooked up but the tacho never worked and I've been thinking lately of how to get it hooked up or the best way to do it.

Should I swap out my cluster and get one out of a 4runner? Mines obviously got the original cluster 3L diesel cluster in it as it's missing the voltage and oil pressure like in the surf/4runners.

Looking for peoples opinions cheers!

Just get a a guage from a 2.4 petrol hilux and hook it up to one of the igniter modules. By the way I did the original conversion on your hilux and the guage in yours is the 2.8 diesel which wont work without a converter. Easy just to swap the guage

I've lined up a 3.0L V6 cluster not sure if that'd work or not, Yeah you posted in my thread on perth4x4 but you never went back on to reply.

Did you do the whole conversion yourself?

Not sure on the v6 cluster but the easiest way is to grab a petrol 4cyl tacho from a similar aged hilux, should be a straight swap without too much difficulty. There are 5 wires coming from one of the igniters - i think it is the black one which is the tacho signal, just have to trace that to the other end of the loom and connect up to the relevant hilux wire.

The 1uz sends a tacho pulse the same as a 4cyl - I think it is 4 pulses where as the diesel tacho runs on 20 pulses or something so I don't know how the 6cyl tacho would work but if you have a 4runner cluster and want the extra guages swap it over and then swap a 4cyl tacho into it if it doesn't work. You will also have to replace the 1uz oil pressure switch with an oil pressure sensor from the 4runner - i am pretty sure they screw straight in - the hilux one does to work with the sr5 guage in my ln106.

The V6 cluster will read but only 66% of actual rpm (6 pulse per rev from 3vze vs 4 pulse per rev in 1uz).

The wire for 1uz tacho pulse is the centre wire on the ignitor with 5 wires (the other ignitor has 4).

You need the 4cyl dash cluster or parts of it.
What do we want? TIME TRAVEL! When do we want it? THAT'S IRRELEVANT!
