Hilux diesel change from manual to auto?

Post by brad 93hilux »

Any one done it?

It's for a 2004 ln167r With a 5le motor and chain drive transfer.

Got to get rid of gearbox soon any way as chain drive transfer is no good, just wondering if any one has gone a auto off a surf/ 4 runner? Or whether just to outright stay away from them?

Im not sure what's involved in changing over, or if there is another auto suitable?

It's what a lot of the guys do when they want to upgrade the 2l-te in the surfs. They chuck in the 5l-e because it has the right sensor.

You're lucky you've got the 5l-e as if you had the 5l you wouldn't have the crank angle sensor I believe is what it's called. It's more the wiring that would be a fuss but it is possible.

Basically just buy the 2l-te auto with bellhousing get an adaptor to run the gear driven transfer, bolt it up and get someone to do the wiring.

most likley you would need a ecu out of a 5le auto. auto is easy enough, it only requires tps and coolant sensors.

someone mentioned that other manufactures gearbox can also bolt up as they are all jatco (spelling) gearboxs. i know of a hiace 3l with a mitisi auto gearbox.

Thanks for the reply's, just weighing up my options on what I can run as a auto would make crawling much simpilar without clutch hassles..

Yeh think you are right, just wont pull the diesel out till its dead and I'm not entirely sure I'll kill it..

But think the hilux will eventually turn into a full comp rig next year, plan on getting a 80 series to tow it around.
