I cant understand the idea of getting one or 2 jerry can holders on the rear bar. For the cost of the carrier- around $800 for the ARB one, you could spend a little more coin and get a long range tank, instead of carrying an extra 20 or 40 litres.

I carry a water jerrycan in mine....got long range tanks. The Jerry has a tap on it.
Handy for washing up, food prep, or just a drink when the beers aren't cold yet.

For this Lady's vehicle she will run the standard spare underneath as a second spare then the one on the bar as the main spare.
Vehicle will be used for light touring duties and with a 2 inch lift going in it for her the underneath spare really should not hinder.
That being the case for her the twin jerrys mean easy acess to water or an extra few litres of diesel depending on the trip but 9 time out of ten the standard fuel tanks will be fine so be handy to have water safely stowed.

She wanted 1 x jerry and 1 x gas bottle but have been told you cant buy such?? and that it is bodering on ilegal carrying gas on back? but then you ideally dont want it in car so then ?? she runs an aussie traveller roof top tent on 3 rhino bars so no room there??

G'day,

Have had two outback (O/L) rear bars now, one on an 80 L/C that has been great with no problems in lots of off road/corrugated driving for many years. Just needed to check the bolts every so often and regrease bearings on the arms once in a blue moon.

Fitted another one to the back of my new VDJ78 yesterday with a tow bar by myself with a few milk crates, good fitting kit, instructions not overly helpful but easy to sort out. Bit of jiggling with the towbar but not too many dramas. Only a six beer job. They are heavy though- I think I may have given myself a hernia but I saved about five hunjy in fitting costs (at the local 4wd shop). They have welded a few captive nuts in the top of the swing arms which are good for fitting light holders, HF radio fittings and I have seen a few grey nomads with a small hand winch attached to get the tyre down if its too heavy.

The only little negatives for the outback kits (that I have struck) is that you have to buy a reversing light thats not included in the kit ($30 off ebay), and the numberplate light is a bulb vs LED (indicators/brakes LED)-nothing big. Also cant fit two 35s on some of the bars but doesnt sound like you'll need to worry about that.

Cant comment on the kaymar bar.

cheers Macca

Kaymar all day i have sold/fitted both and your extra money you spend on kaymar will be worth it in strength alone, they have been building rear bars for a long time, why is it that Kaymar have towbars built into there bars where as outback generaly dont...........

Yes, when I checked for an ARB bar for my GU when I originally leased it 3 years ago, the rear bar was $2400, and each arm was $800.

If it was 1000 extra quality then fine but likely 500 extra and 500 extra margin for 'key resellers.' :D

Am happy to be proven wrong however... Guys i know quizzed running outback bars are rural resellers and stockys and they run and seemingly a good thing and on dirt station remote roads 3 days a week and no issues. They also speak highly of the micky t atz as an aside.

As Taps say's do you need a towbar as well ? may help with the decision ...If a towbar is needed then surely the cost difference isn't the $1000 mentioned

Mine was 3080 IIRC
LH jerry holder, rh tyre carrier, with HF radio antenna mount.
It was only around $100 more than a comparable Kaymar at the time.
I preferred the look of the ARB, and the integrated towbar compared to some other brands.

those prices were fitted. Most places charging 400-500 to fit.

Both good units but ended up ordering an outback as i could not see the extra $1100 + personally.

and she already has a hay man reece tow bar

There are some on ebay for $1900 - Chinese bad boys. With the bad luck I have had with ARB of late, I wouldn't be scared!

bru21.
you should be taking it up with the general manager of ARB, to resolve your issues, which i have no idea on.
once chat to the store, then go to the state manager, state your problems, they are keen to resolve issues.

for me i had to chase up a broken spring, got stuffed around by a store, i wasnt anywhere remote, went through another competitor to get said spring.
it cost me a bit but i got it the day i paid for it.
i definatly let the region manager known about it, and with further purchases down the track, arb will have to give a pretty good discount for me to buy their stuff again.
sad, as its a brilliant product, but damn some of their customer service needs improving.
dont have much faith if im stuck up somewhere out of the way place.

bru21....I think i know the store you are refering to and yes, if im correct there service is questionable. as stated go to the state manager and im sure your problems will be sorted. i know the store owner thinks he gives good service.

Back on track lads :-) rear end discussion... And am not talking pippa midleton. This unit was for 100 series. Checked out 200 kaymar yest and they hack into original rear bumper to fit which sort of defeats the rear end protection thing but i can see with its design how they struggled to get one to look the part.

Kaymar all day ,every day. about $3400 + fit for dual wheel or wheel & can combo.
we have fitted other brands, & they usually come back with some little issue.
kaymars usually dont have issues.
WE WONT FIT POWERFULL 4X4 REAR BARS ANY MORE!! they have had too many warrenty issues in the past. At least 5 out of 10 had to be returned.
if you have 1 on you car & its good . YOU ARE A LUCKY ONE.
cheers Piggy.

Your pricing 500 bellow other tjm store on unit itself. If they didnt try rip everyone off / pull full margin every time they would sell more! Eg i would have bought but to late now. They seem to price everything for the retired rich old bloke or miners! Hence i just booked 8 k worth of gear up for this ladies 100 at a local 4wd (non chain) store and countless money over years. When yellow or navy shirts are willing to look after 4wd enthusiasts ill deal with them. :D excluding present company. :D

that might be because I used to be 1 of you guys, a struggling wanna-B 4x4 racer who couldnt afford to buy all the goodies so opted for having to fab it all . & I know what it is like when you have to make every $$$ count.
Thats why I have implemented a di$$cout scheme for forum & 4x4 club members, but thats only in the 3 stores I represent (TJM Coopers Plains, Underwood & Gold Coast)
Id prefer to sell you guys alot of things & only make a little profit rather than sell you 1 thing & make h huge profit & never see you again.
but to get this discount you must mention it at the store ("piglets 4x4 forum/club members discount") because they dont know who you are
cheers Piggy.

The car ended up getting its Outback rear bar fitted and i must see it seems a very strong easy to operate unit for the lady whos car it is. Maybe not as flashy as other models but she is wrapped.

Piggies pricing was sharp just a buggar i got it after other was ordered but still pricing was good on Outback.
