oil pan??

hey guys.... i still have the block in roza on the mounts, but i did get the top end of the engine off. now i'm wondering, is there any way i can drop the oil pan and tear out the pistons from the bottom? or do i have to take out the block to do so? i know some cars you can drop the oil pan without taking the block out.... so far it looks to me like i'm gonna have to take the block out due to the front diff, axle, and a support beam..... maybe i could take off the support beam? (afraid to do that).... any ideas?]

I think you're beginning to find out why I suggested to remove the entire engine before starting. I gather the beam you're talking about removing has the engine mounts on top of it?

yes thats correct david. it bolts from the upper engine mount onto another engine mount directly under the oilpan. i cant take the engine out right now, thats the problem. dont got the tools or man power right now. no engine hoist either. btw, when i drop in the new engine mount, do i have to take out the tranny, mate it with the engine and drop both the engine and tranny in together? or can i jus drop the engine in and mate it with the tranny?

PV, can you lift the motor up at all with some rope???

I dunno if you know how to do a "truckies knot" (No, not the sort ya tie when you're BUSTIN' to pee), but that should give you enough leverage (?) to lift the block up enough to get at the underneath.

Dunno how strong you are, but 2 fellas should be able to get the block out if everything else is disconnected and the head is off.

well even if i managed to get the engine out... i would have nothing to put the engine onto. no stand or nothin.... looked at the beam and realized it comes off of the frame and supports the front diff..... can i remove it in order to drop the oil pan or will the diff fall out? i dont want to take any risks. i already got enough stuff broken.... god i hope i can put this thing back together.....

PV another option could be to get a custom steel frame made up to support the block with chain. Some manufacturers use the same set up in their workshop manuals- the frame fits across the engine bay and sits where the guards bolt onto the body (ie the lip that the bonnet covers) and then some chain is used to support the engine from that.

BTW engine stands are only around AUS$70 over here- they're not expensive.
