Fj cruiser... V8 turbo diesel conversion?? Possible??
So it seems the only solid axle yotas coming out now are hardcore cruisers that are IMO fugly and a bit too rugged for my liking.
Throwing the idea around... Has anyone looked at or performed a turbo diesel V8 conversion out of the new cruiser into an Fj cruiser?! Would be a beast I'd reckon.
How much room is in the engine bay in one of those...
Any takers!?!

I've never seen one in the flesh. How big are they (the car that is)?
If it's roughly the same size/weight as a hilux or prado then i suspect that even with a full chassis underneath it the 4.5 turbo diesel will turn the car and chassis inside out, and pretzel any driveline attached to it methinks.
Those things are torque monsters!
Has anyone got comparison weights between the v8 turbo diesel and say an old school 5 liter holden motor?

The FJ and Prados have a fairly substantial chassis, I think space will be the biggest issue.

Engine bay looks to be very small. I think if you drove the v6 that comes in the fjc you wouldn't worry about any engine conversions. I've never had so much fun in soft sand in anything else (including my old Lexus V8 4runner. Even stock gears and engine with 35s the fjc hauled arse in soft sand.

throw the TRD supercharger on if you want more torque but i got the v6 in a lux and goes pretty hard
93 duel cab lux. 2.8 TD twin locked. Big tyres, little lift. Wide stance. Barwork and build up under way
Re: Fj cruiser... V8 turbo diesel conversion?? Possible??
There was a link to a build thread in the states. I think it was on a diesel Toyota forum. I will try to find the link
Re: Fj cruiser... V8 turbo diesel conversion?? Possible??
Granted the factory v6 has plenty of power, but being a little old school and a little retro as well, would find it hard to go past a V8 if it were possible!
Was just throwing around the idea of the "best all round tourer" concept...
I'd reckon the FJC with the V8 turbo diesel and a solid axle front riding on 37's would be a pretty tough truck to beat. Granted the $$$ would be excessive but hey.. just throwing an idea around..
Look forwards to seeing that link if its around..

Have to agree, even with 32 MTZs on ours it was a lot of fun on the beach, to the point where we often didn't realise how quick we were going.
Its a shame they didn't offer the FJC with the D4d that is in the Prados and Hilux's, I think they would have sold a lot of those.

and you've seen the new fj whilst sober i presume???Latitude777 wrote:My mates got the 76.. Too rugged for my liking. Doesnt flex well and looks butt ugly in my opinion...
each to their own i guess.
60 + Turbo, 33"s
Re: Fj cruiser... V8 turbo diesel conversion?? Possible??
Easiest conversion would be the diesel from the prado.
The V8 diesel will set you back as much as the car did to buy.
