Is there any difference in the internals of the 1hdfte engines in the utes and 100series wagons?cause I've notice in a few stats that say the wagons have more power and torque than the utes. So does anyone know the truth to this, do the wagons have different ECU and turbos?
Re: 1hdfte
Yes they are different, check toyodiy and compare the part numbers.

Re: 1hdfte
I have read that the 100 fte has lighter pistons, Higher pressure pump, different injectors and an intercooler as well as different computer.
The 100 has as part of it's major service at 150K, to change the injector pipes as well as rebuild the injectors.

i think the OP is asking about the difference between the 1HDFTE in a HDJ100 and HDJ79
the 100 produces 155kw, the ute 127kw i think.
i dont know for sure there are any internal differences, but the computers are definately different. the over-boost fuel cut on the utes comes in quite a bit lower than on the 100(15.5psi) which means you cant just wind up the boost on the utes without some trickery.

Re: 1hdfte
I am talking about 79 fte and 100 fte. Info is hard to find but is out there. Ask a good diesel shop and they will tell you that the injectors between 79 and 100 fte's are different and not interchangeable.

i thought the difference between 79 series 1HDFTE weren't intercooled from factory where the 100series 1HDFTE was ?

Re: 1hdfte
Yes. there is that, but that isn't the only difference.
I have heard there was an update in 2004 sometime which was quite worthwhile.
I can neither confirm or deny this information.

Re: 1hdfte
no 06 was the update and they are pulling really good money second hand, 60 plus grand.
fuel economy is around the 10/100, that is unreal for a near 3tonne wagon.
im keen on this model but hear the hydraulic suspension is a pain.. lop sided and towing, hard to set the vehicle up level

I'ive got an 03 and cant get 10l/100
Did a run to perisher recently and averaged 12.2l/100 for the trip, sitting on 110 where it was legal, but mindful of economy to an extent. I thought this economy was fantastic and certainly better than my normal economy.
I think these people claiming 10l/100 are full of shit to be blunt.
I don't think there was anything magical done in 06, certainly no-one is able to quote any changes that would make such a big improvement in fuel economy.
Ive spoken to several mechanics at toyota, one of them right into cruisers and has his own 100serires TD and knows nothing of difference between the early and late 1HDFTE.
I think this theory of 10l/100, and updated 1HDFTE in 06 is total unicorn shit, and defy anyone to prove me wrong.
Also the active dynamic suspension was only in the saharas standard and option in the GXL, so there will be plenty of them around without it.

Re: 1hdfte
I have a late '06 model GXL & get 13.5/100 without Steinbuaer, 12.5/100 with chip on as it is switchable. Also a manual with 295/75/16 tyres & gets driven a lot between Clermont & Mackay (300ks a trip) at 125klmh on average. There was an update Sep '05, pretty certain the only changes were interior colour, rear aircon added from earlier VX/Sahara models & LED tailights. It's also for sale if anyone wants a good one...Shadow wrote:CRUZAAMAD wrote:no 06 was the update and they are pulling really good money second hand, 60 plus grand.

Re: 1hdfte
sister's 03 model gets 15.
friends got the 06 and got 10's.
he owned it and got rid of it and bought new pajero .
bloody mad if you ask me, he was pissed with the 100k's service costs of a grand.
but now he chews fuel towing the van yet, the cruiser had power to burn, and would still be going strong 30years down the track.
his the biggest tight ass i know, even his son is the same, soo he knows his figures, economy wise.
even moved house, had the receipt from the moving company like 8years ago and moved back again and knew what he paid years ago.
he paid same price.
toyota dont know shit, only the diesel experts that work on the 1hd fte can say, but to get that economy youd be sure as the internals have been improved again.
as an 03 model gets 15, yet the 06 gets 10 or soo.
he might drive like a granny but sticks to the speed limit.

no offense mate but i think your buddy is an idiot for selling his cruiser, and full of shit with his economy.
toyota gives the same fuel consumption figures for both 2003 and 2007 HDJ100R
so i highly doubt toyota would have reduced the fuel consumption, and kept it a secret.
i think it all boils down to service history and driving style, and i dont think anyone can get 10l/100 but like i said, prove me wrong, then explain to me how i can get 10l/100 please

Re: 1hdfte
Proly the only way is to run std tyres at 50psi, tow nothing, no roofrack, no bullbar recent service, new injectors and drive at 80km/hr.
How many of us are going to that??????
Re update, It may not have been anything to do with economy but reliability or strength, better seals, left hand springs or new computer program or some fancy doohicky that aligns the magnetic flux of the drivers hair with the seat .
I personally have no idea. Only heard it 2nd hand from a fellow who was talking to someone from billabong 4wd after I told him about my fte upgrade for my 80 so he decided to look into it. He has a troopy diesel.

they also claim 10.3l/100 highway for the 200series, but i dont know anyone thats done that either!

Re: 1hdfte
Most of my driving stays in the 11ltr range in my o4 Sahara. It's my daily driver so I've kept it stock as a rock apart from bullbar. No roof rack no lift and standard road tyres. However that readout is from the Sahara trip computer and I haven't verified it with actual consumption as I'm way too lazy for that. Do drive it like a bit of a granny though. Trying to keep my licence........
