40 Series tyre placard
Hi all, we have been called into the pits and need a tyre placard for engineering purposes. We have a couple of spare 40 series' in the yard but can't locate it on either of them. Does anyone know where to find it?
Re: 40 Series tyre placard
early 40's didnt have them as they werent required by ADR back then
its only i think 80-83 40's that had tyre placard

Hey guys thanks for the reply, I had a gut feeling that may have been the case, what do you think would be best for the qld transport inspector, pinch on off a 60 or see if he will accept that they didn't come out with one? The reason I ask is because I have been taken off the road for defects and I now have a nice yellow sticker on my windscreen

if they werent required to have them when your car was manufactured then he cant require you to have one.

I am guessing the sticker wasn't just for the tyre placard. What were the other things that caused the defect & what size tyres were you running. You can safely run 33" tyres on a 40 series. This fact has been proven in court.
If your vehicle doesn't have a tyre placard from factory they can't make one magically appear. Otherwise place a Unimog placard on it then you can run 50" tyre !!

Re: 40 Series tyre placard
Haha onyone got a spare unimog tyre placard? Wishful thinking, well long story short is my mechanic and engineer had a falling out and he made a "complaint" that my car was defective because I didnt have a demister ( I'm in a soft top 45 by the way) and they did a full inspection and picked me up on stupid little things, I.E. my bull bar sits to far forward, it's a TJM bar. So I took the part number too TJM and it is made for the 40 series. Basically they are out to get me. I've been working on it to long to stop now so I'll keep plodding along, it can only make it safer right

Mate I had a similar thing happen to me got defected for no tire placard on my 84 4runner. After half a day on the phone trying to get one qld transport advised me that I can legally get one printed my self as long as it had the right information on it. But no one could give me that information. Not Toyota not the cop who got me and not transport ( mines just an odd model and not listed in the books lol) so I was advised to google it lol.of course that wasn't going to work so just went with a 750 /16 lol
Rims flipped from $50

Re: 40 Series tyre placard
well my biggest issue is now tyres. I have spoken to Toyota who has sent me paper work to state that my 72 ( Chassis ) didn't come out with a placard. But now the issue is tyres. He pulled me up on tyres as they were not factory. The are too wide apparently 15 x 8 sunny's. From what I have found stock is split rims 16 x 5.50. This means I can leagaly run 33's but really skinny ones. I can't source a set of rims with decent tyres to borrow. Does anyone else have any bright ideas how to get through this? I have completed pretty much all the other issues but I am really stuck on this one as a set of new are woth about $1500, too much to spend for a couple hours to be bolted on.
cheers in advance.

In the Tyre and Rim Association of Australia - 2002 Standards Manual. This is the manual police and Transport use and specify as the bible (although they might have a newer version).
Page B-07
A 7.50R16 Tyre is specified as
For Traction Tread (AT or MT tread pattern)
Diameter of 812mm
Section width of 208mm.
So you can legally go to 827mm in diametre. (measure your tyre, not what it says on the tyre!!!!!!!!!)
And you can legally go 312mm wide!
For instance, a Maxxis Buckshot 33 x 12.50R15 has a nominal diametre of 818mm(legal!) http://www.maxxistyres.com.au/tyredetai ... d=14&cat=4
But a Cooper STT 33x12.5R15 has a nominal diametre of 832mm http://www.coopertires.com.au/index.php ... &tyre_id=8
A 33x12.50R15 tyre is specified as
Traction tread
Overall Diametre 832mm
Section Width 318mm
If you can get toyota to specify that a 31x10.5R15 was an optional tyre for the fj45, as it was for a fj60, then your laughing. can go 33x15.75" tyre!!
The rim diameter may be varied from the standard size
but the overall diameter of the tyre must not vary by
more than +15mm or -26mm.
it does not say anything about rim width!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only tyre width!!!!!!!!!However, for an off-road passenger vehicle fitted with
front and rear beam axles, the maximum tyre width
must not be more than 1.5 times the vehicle
manufacturer’s widest optional tyre.

Re: 40 Series tyre placard
i have a set of 33x12.50R15 maxxis buckshots you can borrow if they will get you through the inspection.
but it all depends if he is going to measure your tyres, or just read the sidewall.
