80s front mount intercooler piping

Post by Baja Burley »

Ive just bought a 600x300mm FMIC to accompany the gturbo in the truck.. Held it up to see what's what and it will fit alright, my problem I can see happening is plumbing. It's 3" IN and OUT so big pipes. I've got an IC piping kit ($100 eBay, great investment!) so bending and twisting is no issue, I just need a spot to come through! can anyone put up a pic of their work?

Cheers

ive got a safari kit on mine, so both pipes come in from the drivers side. Isnt 3" a bit of overkill?

The intercooler would be the same size if its 2, 2.5,3" in/out. So just use a reducer. No biggy.

The piping kit I bought has all 3" hardware so I'm gonna stick to it. The kit was just a no name of eBay, nothing to write home about.

Surely someone has whacked a generic IC on one of these busses before?

Yeah It's been done plenty.

Most run piping down through wheel arch, under radiator support panel, and back the same way if the inlet and outlet are on the same side, or continue to passenger side, under radiator support again, and loop back up to the intake manifold if the in/out are on opposite sides. Mount the intercooler with inlet/outlet at the bottom.

on the drivers side there is a hole under neither your radiator overflow bottle that if you enlarge that hole for your piping would be perfect for it to come in behind your grill but would suggest puttin some pinch rubber around it so it doesn't rub through your piping can also use the same spot on the passenger side under your battery but a bit more tricky to get right

Thanks for the tips gents. I have dual battery so there's another issue to get around. Haha

I'll be sure to update you on how I did it for future intercoolerists.
