GQ wont reverse

Hi team,
Lent my GQ that I haven't had for very long to a local who got it bogged and generally treated it poorly over a weekend, and now i can't get it to reverse at all. Im pretty sure the handbrake is frozen on because it stops pretty fast after rolling forwards, but when i put it in reverse the car wont budge even a mm. Cant push it backwards by hand either. If i try giving it a bit in reverse it just stalls out. Just had a new clutch installed a few weeks ago, so at least I know that isnt slipping.

Can I just blame it on the handbrake and hit it with some heat, or has something snapped in the gearbox? They guy said it was having problems reversing, but when i took it back, it reversed fine several times and i drove it across town and reverse parked it fine. But now its jammed again a few days later. Could still be ice in places, but im hoping they didnt have it parked in the river to let too much water in. I dont have a garage, so cant do much in the way of home repairs.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Sounds like handbrake is binding up, is often more effective in reverse than forward. Get yourself a repair manual and pull them down and inspect. Fairly easy job, 3 hours maybe if new at it.

Thanks, Ill have a look tomorrow. Ive done it before, so dont need a manual, just really hoping its the brake. Was a bit discouraging that its jammed on so tight that i get no movement at all in reverse, but forwards was still somewhat ok. i wouldnt be surprised if its full of ice.
