Air conditioning no longer cold.

Post by Fire4FX »

Hi, when I had my air conditioning working it was really cold & good. But just over a year now it no longer works & before that I barely used it.

I've taken it to my mech who tested it by pumping in a gas with some dye but there didn't appear to be any leaks. He put some gas in the air con & said that it's still cold. But he couldn't pin-point the exact cause why it wasn't working or cooling.

I'm sure he checked the fuses in the engine bay but he said it could be an electrical problem. I have a small box 10cmx10xcm under my glove compartment with a circuit board in it. Not sure what that is for but my spare zook I have doesn't have it.

I have a 97 Sierra with original air-con installed. Any ideas anyone? I haven't tried to get it re-gased since my mechanic only suggested I take it to an auto-electrician.

Need this working in a couple of weeks might be doing Camerons corner in my Zook :D

So has it been re-gassed or not? Would be a good start.

Sounds like your mechanic has no idea on A/C mate..
Air Con should be regassed every 12 months, you may not have a leak but rubber hoses become proius hence why there are low on gas.. When he did the job did he replace the reciever dryer or TX valve ?? i guess not.. take it to someone who knows what there doing and know the correct pressures to put in it.. if the gas is to low it wont work if the gas is to high it wont work..

No, it hasn't been regassed. All I know he had some gas with dye connected to the front end under the bonnet to test that it was cold but after I drove off prob 30mins later the cold air dissapatted.

I didn't know it had to be done every 12 months so will definately get it into the garage & get another opinion on it. And MogLux he didn't replace anything, just did the gas-dye test checking for leaks that was it. I'm sure my hoses are still in good condition cause I made sure after getting my 1.6L carby upgrade the air-con was connected & working. Will update if I get a fix. Thanks.
