HELP! Death wobbles happen unless Wheels toe out

Post by Plageman »

I have a SPOA Landcruiser 75 and it gets the wobbles at around 50 kph unless my wheels are severly toed out, i mean when you look from the front end it looks as if both front wheels are turning in opposite directions. As soon as i adjustthe tie rod to make both wheels straight, wobbles happen again.

Any ideas?

Im not to sure on casters or any other shit. My pinion angle is set right when i did the spring over. here is the thread for my build up to

My tie rod ends are new havent tried castor wedges, would they help?

I'm chasing the same thing in my hilux ATM. May sound silly but try a wheel balance. See what happens.

Yeah im gonna try wheel align backyard style, by using rims with no tyres on. And meaure front and back of rim to a spot on diff. then adjust tie rod to suit. Im pretty sure castor wedges would help though as my perches are on a slight lean foward.

It feels like a never ending battle though ey,

So what are you doing for your lux?? to fix problem

Thanks Tom, but all i can find are dampeners to replace mine that connect to drag link. Where can i get one that connects to diff and tie rod or do i just have to make a custom bracket to suit normal dampener?

Was going to say the same thing.. if all you have done is sprung over the diffs and not changed the angle it will happen every day... This is the problem when people think they know what there doing and not researching things first.. :bad-words:

Moglux, i agree and think research is a big part and thats why when you look at my build thread there is countless research questions and links on getting the SOA right. Its all part of doing modifications is to change things to get it right.

My hilux has been sased so was originally independent. Mine isn't that bad that its undrivsble just annoying. I put a steering dampener on it and did fix it a lot but I went to fit a set of extended shakles and it's came back bader then ever and felt bad under breaks. So I'm pretty well dumbfounded and can't find anything that really helps. Wheel alignment :fist: and balance did help with a shake in the wheel but it still feels like its bouncing around.

Did you ask your wheel aligner for the caster angle measurement? Caster angle is the usual culprit, especially when extended shackles are used. Other contributing factors on a leaf sprung 4WD could be worn spring eye/shackle bushes, loose U bolts, flogged out/loose wheel bearings or flogged out/loose king pin bearings (trunion).
