Engineering a injected 5L V8
I'm thinking of buying a single cab hilux with a Holden injected 5.0L V8, suspension will only be a 2" lift with bolt on engine mounts and running the Holden auto.
Question is is there much involved in getting this done? I don't have a clue as I've never had my truck engineered
Just after an idea of what you need/need to do to get it and at what sort of cost?
Just thinking of whether its worth getting or forget about it..
Cheers
Brad

Best place around. Recently passed a gq Ute chop 6" lift on 35's for round $1400. Give them a call.

Mine was around $400 from memory for engine/driveline conversion, 4Runner fuel tank, etc. (convert from diesel) using factory parts where ever possible.
Only 1 inspection was required but if a followup visit is needed may charge more.
Can you show/prove a certified welder was used for any structural welding for mounts, etc ?

Also check out Athol Mullen who is in Newcastle (cardiff) not sure on cost for just an engine swap though
Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
Yeh thanks for the reply's ill make a few calls on Monday.
The hilux I'm looking at is a single cab with a 2" lift and he put the 5L in with turbo 700 marks adaptors to hilux transfer its running and drivable but Un-engineered and unregistered but only wants $1500 for it.. Just thinking if its worth the 850km drive to Victoria to get.
What do you think?
Cheers brad

Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
sounds very cheap, if the conversion is done using marks adapters then you shouldn't have too many dramas getting it engineered
Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
Yeh thanks for that mate.
Might go get it during week.

Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
John at consulmotive I wouldn't use anyone else , Mullen is a tool
Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
I did also speak to John however I found him really hard to contact and he never replied to numerous emails, but I would ring around and see who you think will be the best for what you want
Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
I'd steer clear of vmc engineering IMHO.
I've called a heap of engineers regarding the dual-cab swap.
Some were good some were bad. This guy was the WORST.
Such a negative bastard, almost made me want to put it all in the "too hard" basket.
If you like getting knocked back, and told your an idiot for driving a modified 4WD this guy seems to be the go.
Just another opinion, but don't waste your money on this bloke.

High stress job i reckon. Imagine every dick ringing you to engineer this and that and do nothing about it. You must of got him at a bad time.

Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
Yeah maybe you're right mate we all have bad days time to time...And lash out at peeps uneccessarily.
but making a customer feel stupid for even trying to get an engineers cert is not good for his business. Won't be calling him again.
So you say hes done your truck? fark he must have been having a REALLY bad day when I called him.
I was only wanting to do the commo V6 and Auto, Dual-Cab and 2" lift with 33"s and high steer... not exactly a comp truck.
At any rate I found another engineer who is HEAPS nicer to deal with and he will be getting my cash for the cert.
PLUS after I engineer my truck, I'll be going back to get my new GZ20 with 1JZ-GTE with Garret TO4Z, FMIC, etc done as this
guy is so much easier to deal with in my opinion.

Like anything, bad experience sends you somewhere else.
Something common like v6 etc, you shouldn't have a problem.
1jz sounds nice. Touch of oldschool soarer

Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
Thanks man, yeah the JZZ20 soarer goes like a cut snake too.
All the 1JZ goodness, half the weight.
On a side note, I would have loved to put a 5.0L in my lux, but with duals, lockers and 35"s I would've just pretzel'd the driveline.
The V6 once tuned and worked a little goes very nicely...just doesn't sound as good.
So Brad, you buy it? Where's the pics dude?

Re: Engineering a injected 5L V8
Haven't yet, I got Toperi coming up and leaving for that Friday so is cutting it a bit close to drive to SA before then (1800km round trip I worked out)
So if it's still for sale when I get back I'll go for a drive.
