Hey guys, this may be a common question but I can't really find the answers I'm after..
1. How long are new model hilux springs? Are they longer then ifs rears?
2. Has anyone fit them on older luxes? What mods did you have to do?
3. Is the width of the springs the same as older saf luxes?
If they will work I was planning on using some stock 05+ springs in the back of my saf 84 lux.. I figure they are cheap and really available as their are HEAPS on gumtree ect. And maybe fitting some ebay drop shackles, and getting a suck down winch when I design the new tray..
If I am an idiot in thinking this will work can you tell me please haha.

Re: 05+ hilux suspension on older lux
So has anyone used new model hilux springs? Or will I be the first?
Re: 05+ hilux suspension on older lux
Hey mate,
Was thinking of doing the same thing, but wasn't sure about this either?
I was thinking that the 05 luxs would be identical width to the older SAF hiluxs?
I swapped I think it was an 02 IFS rear diff under mine with my springs and this worked fine.
No change to perch, hanger, etc.
So based on that, they would have to be close?
Measure your stock leaves width at the perch, then get the seller to measure the newer ones.
New 05 springs would have to be better than thrased out 1986 model leafies surely?
I've heard of people fitting the new lux rear end to their luxs on here and from memory they are a fair bit
wider but only cause of the axle tubes/axles. I thought the centres were identical? IE G-series centre?
Good luck with it, let us know if you do find out.
Cheers,
Bart

hope that helps. The coil front end leaves are not actually longer than the IFS ones, but the pin location is different.
Standard: 530mm front half, 670mm rear half
IFS: 560mm front half, 740mm rear half
Coil Front End: 610mm front , 690mm rear
So considering standard RUF moves your diff 2-3" forward, and Coil Rears move it back about 3"..
You could move your front hanger about the same as IFS RUF to get a decent shackle angle, but your diff would be further back. So to have your diff forward about 3" with the Coil Rears, the front hanger would be way out the front.
I would just go IFS RUF, or even RUF.

Re: 05+ hilux suspension on older lux
Thanks heaps mate, that's what I needed to hear.. so how do 37's go in relation to the tyre clearance from the cab? My 33's on stock leaves look like they would hit, bumpstops obviously stop the tyres from moving up to much, but 3+" back isn't a bad thing.. I want some 37's so with the diff moved back and these tyres it should be pritty good...
