2010 hilux fuel tank nut wont go on

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, hoping someone has come across this. I've had my fuel tank removed by a local shop and they could not get the fuel tank nut back on and claim the tank opening diameter grew by 3mm once nut removed, they had to replace the tank because of this ($900). I got the old tank and nut back off them and it seems like it could be true, doesn't look like they damaged the thread and the nut will not go on. Local toyota are just fobbing me off, has anyone else had an issue like this? any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Bullshit I do it every day. It is a really really tight fit but it does fit Anf does give issues but have never found 1 that hasn't fitted. It is easily done with the right took and constant pressure must be in the fuel canister to seat the ORING properly

its common on the late model toyota tanks. it distorts. happens when u pull the nut off and leave it for a hour or so. trick is to pull the nut. remove the sender and reinstall the nut. when i worked at toyota i was replacing plastic tanks all the time due to this issue. once they distort they never seal again.

i call BULLSHIT. i have put the nut and sender back on a few days after and never had a issue talking 35-408c heat all the time. always gone back on/

its a scam that the dealership was using to sell fuel tanks.

Can you warm the nut gently with say a hot air gun or in an oven to make it slightly larger and easier to fit?
