Need help with a back seat for a BJ 42 LC

Post by Iava64/40 »

Hi all, would like some suggest on how to fit some back seats to my BJ 42. This manly for my kids and have found a dickie seat to do the job but it is only rated to 38 kg making unsuitable for an adult should I need to use it for an adult (http://retroseating.com.au/4WD.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Also 38 kg is aproxamtly 12 years of age and I intend to still have my LC long after the kids reach 12. What I do like about these seats is that the seat belts are fitted to the seat removing the need to find a solution to fitting the seat belts. Thease also have child retraint anchor points in the back of the seat Dose any one have a suggestion on a seat that may be suitable like the one I found but with a higher weight rating. Maybe rear seat from another vehicle that has seat belts fitted and kid anchor points(anchor points not a must as this is an ease fix)

Thanks to anyone that can help

Budget is tight but safety is paramount :x-mas:

My LC is BJ 42 81mod LX 3 seater. I live in Rochedale South and the LC is situated in Forestdale .

Where are you located? Maybe speak to an engineer in your location. If you post where your from someone will be able to steer you to one. You will probably need to get whatever you end up doing approved and this needs to be reflected on rego.

Have you looked at what other vehicles such as jeeps use? You may be able to adapt something to suit. Even a side seat from a troopy????

I think an engineer is the go, I just had a look and most 3rd row designed seats are for kids due to a few reasons, closeness to rear etc. SWB vehicles have suitable 2nd row adult seats from factory so it can be done but it may be to do with footwell space as it seems 3rd row can be used in place of a booster.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply i have added some details to my post. The rebuild is almost finished but durring the process the kids came along adding the need for the seat. As you said third row seat 38 Kg 12 years old, which means the seat is usless after 12 and i want to keep it long after the kids are 12. There was a model LC 40 LX 6 seater that had a rear back seat forward facing, it also had trim down the sides of the back. When you look at the turret top edge towards the back one can see what looks to be the top anchor point blank but because there is no plate behind it i cant ues this. This is why i am looking for ether a seat with seat belts in it or a seat with the belt guide on the shoulder of the seat eliminating the need for the upper anchor point. It would be go if it was folding but not a have to. Don't want much on a tight budget :D
