Can anyone tell me what differences there are between a 2wd hilux chassis an a 4wd chassis? Is the 4x4 chassis stronger/larger than the 2wd? Ive seen a few threads on Pirate where they converted later model luxes to 4x4 but no mention was made of any strength differences between the two..
I picked up a cheap 2wd 94 hilux today with a Blown 22r motor, but a very clean cab an chassis (For what will probably be a very long term project )

Re: 2wd vs 4wd chassis (lux)
the fronts are different , the chassis is straight through the front of a 2wd but the conversion can be done easily
Re: 2wd vs 4wd chassis (lux)
I didnt think there was too much difference. Buddy on this board has done a couple of 2wd to 4wd Lux builds, Im sure theres a build thread in the members section on this.

Has that been painted a green colour now? Looks like one I saw on pirate. Very cool I love the look of those old luxes.MogLux wrote:here is a mate of mines 2wd 70's model lux converted to a 4wd, no chassis mods to the main rails one mods to mount the airbags
Thanks for the replies, I didnt realise Buddy had used a 2wd chassis, Ill have to go back an have another look.
Basic Idea for this project will be offroad only, coils, v8, 37"s,cruiser diffs, built to run in comps like FNQ 4x4 challenge, mackay offroad challenge an social trips etc.
