That's because this thread is a good 12-18 months behind the release of the Jana kits on Pirate. . Brooksy has spoken about it long before this thread and I have personally discussed it with him when he was helping me with my diffs, which was a good 12 months ago.

I suspect that with the weight of say the red devil on your diffs and a V8 then they'd bust just as easily as any other.

It says max steering angle of these things is 40* a couple of you Guys mentioned that Nissan/Toyota steering is shit, what max steer angle can a longfield achieve?
We have a really good case here for the D60's now but lets hear a good argument for the mogs!! I know moglux mentioned he priced Dana's against mogs and obviously went mogs, so there is good value in them too.

When i decided to move away from the Yota axles i looked into a number of different options ( but never considered POOtrol axles ).. I was going to build a hybrid 60 series dana outers etc.. but i found my mogs factory reconditioned in the states..
I had to import them myself which alot of people shy agaianst , but it worked out alot cheaper.. i landed my mogs in Aus for aprrox $3500 - (these were stock diffs also, no hydro etc..), try building yota or pootrol diffs for that you cant..
As for parts in Aus, when i broke them im lucky to have friends that also had portals - Matt Dunk and Mal Van, Geoff (team Mog). I bought all of Matts parts of him which included spare portal housing, gears bearings, axles etc.. I also purchased a full set of axles from Micka in qld , and Mal Van gave me gears when i broke the last portal ..
I have since sold my Mogs to a young bloke in Orange NSW and have gone down the Dana 60/70 root for my new build - (Mogs and rear steer not the best for a go fast car, they would work but i opted against it).. Once again i was forunantly lucky enough to come across both my front and rear axles cheap.. for free , they just needed rebuilding.. however it has not been cheap.. Complete rebuilds of both entire diffs, 35 spline axles front and rear, custom high steer, new unit bearings etc.. im into these diffs for way more than i bought and sold the mogs and all the spares for..
Dana diffs are not budget diffs--- trust me
Mogs deffenantly are budget diffs if you can get them for the right price.. and have awesome clearance
If i was to build crawler diffs again i would build a 60/80 series combination
Max steering on Mogs are aprrox 36'
Yota and Nissan approx 40'
Dana can be anywhere between 40-50' steering, my new ones will be 50' steering only using 6.5" of steering ram

If i was to build a crawler again i would want something like my mates truck in the states, Dave built this truck this yr to do the 2012 Ultimate Adventure, its very cool, low and on air bags.. Something outside the square ... And its 100% regoed - even though California laws allow just about anything to be regoed out there.. And i cant wait to have a drive of it at 2013 KOH

They are not budget, but I reckon Unimog 1700L diffs would be the ulitimate. Much larger than 404's. U1700L are 10,600 kg GVM and run 52inch tyres std. I'd like to see atube buggy running these.

Have you seen them up close and persomal zoltan? Not only did i spend years using these as a driverbvt also servicing them. They are very beef but also massively heavy and bulky. Not to mention expensive

Not these exactly no, I like the idea of moving towards truck type axle assemblies but I believe you'll still find their breaking point. But this time you won't have any upgraded parts to put back in.
The yanks have been toying with stuff like these for years, but they still swear by upgraded dana/sterling/international assemblies.
If you had cash to burn you would find out what the most hardcore axles oversons make replacements for and buy those.
Building far out crazy stuff is all well and good but if you end up moving too far away from off the shelf parts you are going to find it detrimental in the long run.

Beef is absolutely NOT an issue with these axles.

If you use a sea freight forwarder here are some of the hidden costs -
1. U.S. local freight. If you purchase a ready built set of diffs there is a freight charge for getting the diffs to the freight forwarder internally in the U.S. This can be any amount but at least 500'ish
2. If you purchase parts with a view to assemble them here you will need someone to consolidate your parts on a pallet then forward to the shipper. They will charge you for this service so if you have a contact over there who can do this for you then this is a good idea as it can be costly. There will then be a freight charge from your consolidator to the freight forwarder.
3. Your freight forwarder will charge between 200-400 per cubic meter or part thereof
4. Unless your shipper allows you to freight as part of a larger consignment there will be a customs inspection/clearance of about 200-400 bucks
5. GST on the value of goods AT TIME OF LANDING
6. Australian internal freight
If you air freight just hand over your firstborn

You also forgot insurance! which can be anywhere from 5% to 20% of the purchase price . My Mogs cost about 1000-1500 to ship and taxes duties etc.. however i also used a mate that reduced the costing heap... so the 1500-2000 mark is a far call i say

Low range website says about 1400 to ship 2 steer bar housings to aus.. thats via dhl

I dont know why Ruff Stuff wont ship housings seeing they ship everythig else to OZ... I had all my rod ends rear truss etc I bought more than what the housings are worth.. shipped from Ruff Stuff to me, Dan (the owners son) never once mentioned to go to Dragtec. Maybe housing would be different who knows.
