best 33'' tire for social/light comp work
ok so been looking at some tires to fit on my hilux but cannot find a suitable tire for my application so i figured why not see what other people have had and see what they think.
personally i am after something for all kinds of tracks, mud rocks gravel dirt sand etc
i am not worried about on road performance or driveability just something you chuck on for the day/weekend to thrash your truck out in the park/forestry.
i figured the suzuki people and the like would like this post aswell as alot of suzukis run 31-33'
my choices have been:remember these are only 33''
silverstone extreme
maxxis mudzilla
simex jungle trekker
bfg km2
i have 15x8 beadlocked and braced rim so i want to let them as low as i can and out of those couple i am leaning toward the simex jungle trekker cause i like the tread design and they seem to be ticking all the boxes.
any way just want to see what people think about the tires and if i am looking in the right direction.
thanks ..smiley..

I may get hung out to dry for this but why haven't you got Claws in their as a good all rounder. Especially under a light car like a Hi lux.
I have run radial claws from day one. I drive where the Simex boys drive, sometimes easier, sometimes harder.
Don't rule them out, they are a great tire on Hi Luxes IMO.

The new TTC claws, or even MTZ's which I found as excellent as all rounders.

Re: best 33'' tire for social/light comp work
Ran 33x10.5r15 Jungle Trekker 2's for ages as a 2nd set and these were great but if I had my time again and were sold on the JT2's I'd go for them in 34x11.5R15's. As you will know a strong tyre for all conditions, even rock when aired down. Mine had numerous cuts but always seemed to survive without loosing air. 11.5's seem to have an wider center rib than the 10.5's too.tjm_tj wrote:Super swamper ltb? 34x10.5?
Currently run the 34x10.5r16 LTB's.. have had these for a while now and am very happy with their offroad performance even if they are a bit on the skinny side. They seem to handle any terrain without issue. They are quieter than the JT2's on road.
Both are/were run on road (daily tyres) and significant care is required on road in the wet. Wear seems to be consistent across both so far.. for a MT although I think the swampers might be wearing a little faster.
Simex are big 33's so they'd be my vote and suit your rims. Swampers in the 34x10.5 broke the bead a few times on 16x7's but are great on the 16x5.5 rims.
Both of these tyres are non-directional too (something that I prefer).
Re: best 33'' tire for social/light comp work
Simex for my choice. ,Mudzillas I don't like on rocks seen very slippery and skaty. km2 are a every day tyre so don't see them as a hardcor play tyre. Think about the claws I run them in35/12.5/16 on my haikus at 15psi every day and lower to 7 or8 when off road. On 16x10" rims
93 duel cab lux. 2.8 TD twin locked. Big tyres, little lift. Wide stance. Barwork and build up under way
Re: best 33'' tire for social/light comp work
Treps arnt made in 33's buddy only like 31's then 35's 37's etc.tjm_tj wrote:Super swamper ltb? 34x10.5?

3.0L turbo diesel, 4" lift, bud's front housing, track assasin cv's, air lokker front + Rear, beadlock'd 37 stickies, high steer, 15.5" travel ranchos, high pinion diff and coils on the rear
Re: best 33'' tire for social/light comp work
If they're only a play tyre, is there any reason you don't want 35"s. if you're set on 33"s I'd stay away from mudzillas they're normally a very small 33. Mine measured under 32 with 15psi in them. My choice would be the simexs for a lux
Re: best 33'' tire for social/light comp work
With simex's, if you don't have chromo cv's n axles in front you will break it.
They are a aggressive pattern and when they spin and bight traction it can usually mean a broken cv.
Simex centipedes are really noisy and quite often don't balance we'll/ ride well onroad, they are ok new but once worn a bit they are a little average.
I had cooper stt's and loved them but goood year MTR's are crap.
And yes I have used all of them, but nothing compares to my maxxis stickies

Re: best 33'' tire for social/light comp work
I've had MTR's in 32's and I still have them in 315 75 r16 (35")
It's the only tyre I've managed to do a side wall in (common for mtr's) and find both sets are very slippery on wet roads/ rocks and are very average in the mud..
Coopers had good grip all round, not the best mud tyre but still not bad and by far better on rocks
Definately would not buy MTR's again
