Buying a patrol.

Post by pleashy »

So I'm going to buy a gq or a gu? I want to put a td42 crate engine into which ever I buy. I'm thinking a cheap 4.5, but the question is would a td42 gear box bolt straight on to the transfer case from a 4.5. The 4.5 seem really cheap.

first I've heard of a 'crate' 4.2 motor. Might be delivered on a crate when extracted form the doner 4.2.

Still 4.2 all the way over 3l and definitely over 4.5l of petrol guzzling behemoth. The 4.5l drinks like a fish and God knows what they do with it because it isn't transferred into power.

But do the math for the conversion and the hassle and know it will never have the resale of a genuine factory 4.2. It may still be cheaper to get a 4.2 as nature had intended. You may have to be patient to get one, but you would be in a better place to start off with than converting a 4500.

pretty sure the td42 is still being made for forklifts and such. so crate motor is a possibility. Remember you still gotta buy all the bolt on bits including injector pump i believe. Rough guess you wouldnt have any change from 15k just to get it ready to bolt in. let alone clutch, sorting fuel tanks and all the other little bits.

I just replaced my TD and got a 2nd hand rebuilt motor with all the bolt ons for 9k and I didnt shop around.
GU td42 ute with go fast bits and go futher bits
