Can this be done and is it difficult, annoyed at the time it takes to pump up tyres.
A wrecker said today that he would sell me the compressor and the mounting brackets for $130.
Does that sound okay, difficulties in installing??

I got a compressor for $40 from pick-a-part. mounting brackets are a Cookie.
but yes can be done piss easy on a diesel, better with a 2inch body lift though...
Well i just spent the last hour reading heaps of tech about converting aircon compressors to tyre pumps and i must say im even more confused

i have a standard sd33 with 2" lift, if i go and buy a compressor and mounting brackets off a wrecker apart from installing it what else has to be done????
Grease nipple?? Special way to mount it???

If your 4bee doesnt already have a Aircon then easiest way is to fit $130 with OE bracket.
Put a grease nipple in blanking plug on side and pump in moly from time to time.
Use orig hoses. One to an old lawn mower filter etc for inlet.
Outlet hose is needed to take the heat for 1st couple of feet, then join to good quality neoprene air line.
A second hand truck tank makes a good air tank under chassis, behind winch etc.
Take outlet from top half of tank to reduce contamination.
Wire clutch thru a sw on dash. Only run at fast idle No more.
Put a blow off valve on tank ~140psi normally from comp shop.
Use fittings of your choice.
Put a one way valve at inlet to tank away from hot part of hose.
Also from aircomp or hose shop (yellow pages/Enzed etc)

Well after buying the compressor i decided at the wreckers not too take the mounting brackets but decided it would be easier to get the brackets so i went back only to discover some moron had welded the brackets on!!
So after alot of thought the easiest spot to mount the compressor would be over the steering box. So have made an adaptor plate and is all mounted up, will try and find a belt to fit tomorrow and will let you all know how it goes.

There is one wire coming off the unit i assume you wire this through a switch and it basically operates the clutch which makes the compressor run??

The grease nipple need to be drilled and tapped into the oil filler top-up plug in the body of the compressor. I use high temp wheel bearing grease which seems to work ok although a bit gets blown out the exhaust of the compressor after a while.
Wire the cable that goes to the compressor coil to a relay--feed +12v from battery to relay. Wire a switch on dash to feed the relay from an IGN source so you dont accidently leave it on. When you get your tank, wire the switch via a pressure switch to the relay.
