Transfer case rear seal leak

Morning all,

Just been having some issues with a GQ transfer case rear seal. Have tried 2 different seals and it still leaks. Putting the transfer into 4wd makes the leak worse.

Could it be 2 dicky seals? they were both aftermarket seals or could the transfer case be pressurising?

I have ordered a genuine seal and am going to give that a go. Any other ideas?

I had my rear output flange off this week and noticed it has a couple of nice grooves in it from the seal.

Could be the flange is worn enough to allow it to leak.

You could use a speedy sleeve or just get another (good) flange.

Fitted nissan seal today, still no good, looks like i may need to try a new flange!

its leaking that badly I would checking how much play there is in the output shaft. Might have a bearing that is failing causing excessive movement.

It's a slow drip. Could overfilling it be a contributing factor?

No! still check the play in shaft in case its damaging the seal

There is next to no play in it. Not sure where to go from here.

When you put the seal in did you put grease on the surface the output flange runs on?

Yep, did that.

Have now tried 2 seals myself one aftermaket and a genuine.

Have had a 4wd workshop try it as well.

Almost to the point of just grabbing another transfer case and chucking it. They are cheap as chips.
