difference between 40 & later 70 PTO gear?

Post by cruiser60series »

Someone has a PTO winch for sale but from an unknown year 70. I am assuming it will fit in my HJ47 ? Did the bolt covers or internal gear ever change? Thanks.
At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.

Bolt covers are the same, but you may or may not have the internal gear in your transfer case. Some had them some didnt.

The bolt patterns changed during the 40 series era - the PTO cover has 6 bolts - 1 top, 1 bottom, and 2 each side. From memory one pattern has the side bolts level, the other they are offset to each other a little. Not sure which one will relate to the 70 series.

Late 47,60,75 x are all the same pto gearbox, your 47x should have the,pto gear inside the transfer.
Find out what model 70x it Is from, a factory turbo 70x will not fit but a non turbo 70 x will ( meaning 79x )

Anyone know wether any of the later hzj75s an 79s came with factory ptos? Ive seen plenty of aftermarket ones but none with anything that resembles a factory pto

Thanks guys. I'm fairly confident it would be form an earlier 70 so probably not 79. I have a few PTO gears in the shed so I will have one even if I have to pull it apart. Thanks again.
