Getting 4.8 Gu brakes to 4.2 patrol

Post by darnoldrs »

For anyone that has done this conversion, was there anything else that was required other than what is on the front diff? Was the conversion successful and worth while? Will be running 35's. thanks

Someone more noteable may know more but I believe you should also replace the booster? May not need to to make it work but from what I understand the brakes wont work to their full potential??????? Someone may correct me as I am not 100%. Might be worth doing a serch on Patrol4x4 forum

All you need are backing plates (both parts), rotors and caliper mounts (just as easy to get the whole caliper though).

The actual caliper is the same on the two, however just mounted a little further outward on the 4.8.

4.8 has a much better venting design than the 4.2. I did notice improved braking but at least part of that is contributed to new pads and rotors from the old warn out items that came off it.

However, I would definitely do it again and again if for not other reason than for the venting.

You probably won't be able to run 15" rims with the 4.8 brakes.
But you might be running bigger rims already.

Good call AJ.

Based on his sig, "35-12.5-15 MTR's" the 15" rims will not go over the 4.8 brakes. So new rims will need to be thrown into the mix.
