Sorry for too many questuions, I just got myself a 3F powered FJ62 with 307,000km on it.
I'm a mechanic by trade, and one of our parts suppliers/wrecking yards has been doing some cleaning up has found a complete 2H with aftermarket turbo kit bolted up, engine is unknown condition but I can pick it up for next to nothing, so few questions:
How good does a 2H handle aftermarket boost?
If I need to rebuild it, is there aftermarket 12H-T type pistons that will give better reliability?
iun your opinion is it worth changing into the FJ? better torque and fuel economy? should have similar power I guess? also bearing in mind the 3F is getting a bit long in the tooth as well so might need attention too.

2H + Turbo - worth converting FJ62?
The old Luxy was fun, but with a young family comes great responsibility.
So I swapped it for a 60. Should be able to take the whole mob camping, plus I got an extra gear, 2 less cylinders and A/C.

Re: 2H + Turbo - worth converting FJ62?
2H take well to aftermarket turbo but probably best to not go over about 12 psi.I would go stock pistons for a rebuild, they run to 500k klms regularly without trouble.Depending on condition of body and how long you plan on keeping it as to if it is worth doing.
Re: 2H + Turbo - worth converting FJ62?
I know all Toyota diesels go long without issues, as we work on them all the time at work, just not sure about turbo N/A as the boss tends to use factory turbo engines for his vehicles.
Plan on keeping it for a while, body is good apart from the paint, suspension has obviously been replaced as it isnt sagged at 307,000km, gearbox is a little noisy, but have built a few of them so that also is a non issue.
Once I rebuild and convert to diesel, rebuild the gearbox, then wheel bearings and steering knuckles, I think I'll end up with a good solid base to start with, which I dont see me getting rid of in the foreseeable future. Fairly big fan of the old 60's I am lol.
Thanks for feedback, stock rebuild it will be, then add the turbo kit.

Re: 2H + Turbo - worth converting FJ62?
I'm on my third 2h + t 60. No turbo or motor issues so far all done 400-500ks, I wouldn't bother rebuilding it but thats because i'd have to pay someone to do most of the work, knock yourself out if you can do it for nothing.

I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.

The car has 307K o it, and the old 3F is getting a little tired. I also like 2Hs
I dunno if it will be getting rebuilt yet, think I'll try starting it first, but it was taken out of a wreck years ago, and has been hidden away in a corner since, owner couldnt remember why they couldnt start it in situ, could have been accident damage, or something silly like a missing fuel tank or radiator. Either way not worth his while to sell it and warranty it, but he will do a deal for me.
So yeah, assuming everything is serviceable, it should only cost me parts to rebuild it.
