Pajero - Buying 1 new piston

I had a bad day with my NL Pajero. I unknowingly dropped a washer into the intake manifold, and when I started it up, damaged No 6 piston. All my own stupid fault... I had 2 new valves fitted, but the noise is still there, so it must be either the piston or the bearings (most likely the bearings because there is no smoke and the nosie does go away under certain throttle conditions). Everywhere I try, I can only buy a set of 6 pistons & rings. Even the local Mits dealer reckons they can't supply ANY pistons!).

Anyone out there know where I can buy a piston, rings and bearings to suit 1 piston only?

I would think it would need to be rebored as the washer has probably scored the bores
Get in touch with your local Mitsubishi dealer they would know where to get pistons
you can get rings from most auto places

Thanx for yur reply. The bore was untouched - the head was off and the 2 inlet valves replaced. There was no noticeable wear in any of the bores, only No 6 piston top dented. I retrieved the washer before the head come off and suggested at the time that the piston should come out. I took a gamble that all was OK donw there - I lost...

Damned pity - the rest of the car is in excellent condition and I was (am?) about to trade it in on a new NW Pajero and this happened. It was not worth very much before the incident, is currently worth nothing and after I fit a new piston (or 6 if I cannot buy a single), it will still be worth very little, but will be a good car for someone.

I would bung a magna motor in there .. it is an easy swap.
they are way way cheaper than a paj donk.

I have done it in the garage at home with a hoist and hand tools.

Thanks for the reply. What was involved in the swap? From what I have been told, you need to swap the sump & oil pickup, and make an adpator bracket for the cam angle sensor. Otherwise it should go. Correct?

This is probably too late because I have ordered a new set of pistons, rings, big-end and gudgeon bearings and gaskets. It already has new cam seals, 2 new inlet valves and a complete timing belt kit fitted, so there isn't much else to do with it. The engine is coming out next week and hopefully will be back & running by the end of the week. Then the car is for sale (I have a new Pajero waiting for me to cough up the money). If we have problems, I'll source a Magna engine. Was there anything else you had to do to get the Magna engine in and running?
